1st ride in a long time on a tandem... this time it was offroad! it was fun, scary, and i'd definitely be willing to do it again. made all the climbs, tight corner on a downhill was a bit frightening though. i'm the goofball stoker w/ her tongue hanging out. ;-P both of us were sporting quite the silly grins on our faces by the end of the ride.

wheeeeeeeeeee!
Nice!AK Ken

Tandems are great fun, aren't they? What kind is that? Is there rear suspension, or just a suspension seatpost?

We're in the market for a full suspension tandem, and have been evaluating recent rides as "tandemable" or "not tandemable".

A tandem is the only way I can be certain of keeping up with Clare on any given ride.

santana something! i forget the model... sorry. no rear suspension on that one, but santana does make one. the bike in the photo retails for about $6k, shop that owned it offered to sell it for $5k. the dual boingy one goes for closer to $8k i think--he said, but i wasn't listening too hard since i wasn't in the market for one.

The stoker and I got to ride all the various off road FS tandems at Interbike in Vegas last month. The Ventana El Conquistador de Montanas is still the best deal going. They also have a newer longer travel model, the El Testigo, but the ECdM still is a better all around rig, 4" rear travel (can be changed to 3", or 5").

The Ellsworth Witness is a good rig, too, but only one size available. The Ventana rode better, however. Could have been the front shock selection and level of components contributed to this.....

All rides are 'tandemable' if you're willing to carry : -)

We got a 2003 Ventana ECdM at the end of the summer, Gustav DH discs, Marzocchi DJ1 fork with 20mm axle, Hugi FR hubs, etc. Very nice indeed.

I would agree with Tim! Almost everything you can ride on a single a good tandem team can ride (with exception to North Shore type stunts). We have an Vnatana - its the only way to go if you are building a serious rig. But, we started on a C-dale with a rear susp psot and rode that for 3 years! It is a less expensive way to go. If tht was Tim from Acme Bikes responding in a previous post you can talk to him further about costs.

that started out with drop bars and a suspension post for the stoker, graduated to flat bars, then a 4 inch dual crown fork with an Avid Disk on the front. Once we got to that point, the stoker seatpost wasn't near enough cush in the rear, and someone kept throwing hundred dollar bills at me to buy that bike, so we sold it intent on replacing it with a dual suspension something or other.

That was Memorial Day weekend, then some life events happened that put the tandem on the back burner. It'll return to the front of the stove one day.

Yeah, I've discussed the issue at some length with that Sparrow guy who flies around Dakota on a tandem; very informative. Also inspirational to see the photos of the stuff they've ridden.

Thanks for your input.
