New Bike, New Camera, New Friends....A ride. (7 posts)
| New Bike, New Camera, New Friends....A ride. | AlloyNipples Nov 27, 2002 8:50 AM | | Well, the weather down South, while not quite frightful, has not been very delightful, that is, until this past Sunday. 60 degress and sunny! My wife and I have been wanting to ride with a few new folks that we've meet through passion or through other friends but for various reasons we havn't been able to get together for a dirty time.
This Sunday, the stars, sun and moon lined up and so did we. (Except *rt* & new bou who probably pulled up just as we rounded the corner out of sight.) We hit a North GA favorite for an epic day.
I've been to this trail many times but Roger (Raja) will show us secret dirt.... with the exception of the first 100 yrds, it was all up hill! Yes, Laurie, I'd like some cheese ;-)
R-L Tim, ME, My wife Elicia, Kim, Bill, Laurie (whatever), Roge(raja)
First things first.
When I get to a fork in the trail, I take it.
As usuall, the first climb and I get dropped.
I had to bypass on the fs road the get ahead of the group... Everyone likes to see their pic on the web but no one likes to wait on the photographer.
Bill and Kim are poetry in motion on that tandem. They say it's like marriage counseling, communication is key. To me, they're just damn fast! BTW, open up any past issue of BIKE and you'll most likely see Bill's photo's all over the place...especially of Hans.
Most pics of them look like this... Unfortunately their day ended early with a mechanical. Strong legs + weak chain = Afternoon on the couch.
So we finally stop for a break.
And we're off again!
OK, it's a new camera and I am not used to the shutter lag of a digital. It's STL, they are riding FTL and it's damn slippery with those leaves. Raja
Tim
Elicia
Me in a staged photo as no one wanted to ride on down the hill, stop and take a pic...bastids!
We stop again for a bite to eat.
Finally, a huge jump for action shots!!! Everyone got big air but the shutter bug bites again and I f'd up.
Raja going large!
Tim does a back flip.
Laurie does the sweetest table top i've ever seen!
Elicia with a picture perfect cross up.
After 30 miles or so and 5 hrs, the shadows are getting long. Raja and Laurie seem to know every biker we see. Here's a stragler named Kathy.
Tired, hungry and cramped, we hit the final strip of dirt on the way down the mtn back to the cars.
I was so hungry I almost decided that these were cinnamon red hots...
I think Roger and Laurie had a good time.
I know Tim had fun.
And that's it. Many miles, many laughs, new friends.... that's all I got to say bout that.

| Nice shots - question inside | Bonee Nov 27, 2002 9:15 AM | | That small wooden bridge spanning the creek, do you guys ride across that or walk it?
And that table top drop shot was sweet! |

| Thanks for the write up....... | Raja Nov 27, 2002 9:44 AM | | We had a great time. I promise to take pics next time, my camera was just along for the ride.
We plan to ride Thurs, Fri and Sat, so if you're around maybe we could hook up at Blankets for a ride. I'll probably be at the auto-x Sunday, but Laurie may join you guys at Tanasi.
By the way, the dog in the group pic is Oreo. Oreo was on the ESPN coverage of the Norba National in Helen several years ago. Guess that makes Oreo a TV star. I was standing there when the coverage was shot, but they didn't get any video of me. Oh well. |
