Jan 20, 2003 5:46 AM | | Yep that's right folks, it does snow south of the Mason-Dixion. After working 5 hrs Saturday doing trail maintenance (see post below) and swearing off a ride on Sunday cause it was just too cold, we end up at a mtn bikers b'day party and a few beer later the ride was on! |

Pooles to get me through 1 sub freezing weekend. There was no need to go out and torture myself in the cold. Well, I'm weak, I admit it, I have no will power, I'm subject to peer pressure, I have an addiction! BIKES!
But, I can't help myself when I know the N. GA mountains are waiting for me. Back me up on this one Duckman.

Georgia's version of the Front Range. Just over the edge is a 1K drop to the coastal plains below. (We're on the mtn from the previous pic.)
Only a little snow in the parking lot, looks like it might be OK. BTW only 3 outa 8 made it, go figure.
Soon we hit the shadows and the snow started to stack up. I'm glad there were other fools to preceed us, the trail was packed nicely. I imagine much like the trails AK Ken rides after the snow machines do their thing.
Finally, these guys wait up for the camera man. Funny thing is, they take off as soon as I roll up. No, that's ok, I don't need a break!

I almost fell in taking this one.
I finally reached the top and it was all down hill from there. I had no subjects to shoot as they were probably already back at the truck. I surfed along, made it to the truck, headed for lunch at the regular spot. BEST BBQ in the south, IMHO.

May just have to go over to Chicopee, but i'm now getting tired of that ride also, so maybe somewhere nearby there.

Since we have the privy of year round riding, maybe we should do a mini one day ride for ga passion peeps... grill some free range chicken and cold barley pops at the trail head. Bull would be perfect, lots-O-trail and a big, outa the way parking lot.

I don't know if it was just an off day or if I'm not used to riding with that much gear on but I was embarrassed to be in the woods with myself. I have a lot of work to do if I want to go to FFTF but the days are getting longer and soon I will be able to hit Sope Creek after work. Sunday I went on a day hike with my GF by Iron Mountain. It was gorgeous up there with the river being about 1/3rd frozen and this idiot forgot his camera. Lets pick a place and a date. |

Jan 20, 2003 11:55 AM | | It was pretty good but like I said I was having an off day. I didn't notice any trails being closed. On the technical side there are a few more trees down and one whole section was unridable because of several large trees down over the trail. There was already a bypass at that section so no walking was required. The trees that were down look like they were blowovers so I guess a pretty big storm came through at some point. |
