| AZ Peeps: San Tan Park news | Paul B Jan 20, 2003 9:26 AM | | So I went down to the 24 hour course to preride this weekend with some team mates. Turns out one of my riders works at the engineering company that's doing the master plan at San Tan Regional Mountain Park. That means they're the ones who will ultimately plan out the trails there.
I got some inside information on what's going on out there. For one, the mayor and vice-mayor of Queen Creek (the nearest town with the biggest say in how the San Tans will be developed) are split down the middle: The mayor is a hardcore equestrian/bike hater and the vice-mayor is a hardcore cyclist. Queen Creek even delivered a videotape of the mayor talking about the future promise of the park -- shot while the mayor is sitting on a horse. Nice.
Anyway, there is a public participation phase coming up very fast. This is the cycling community's chance to let the planners know we've got hundreds of volunteers and thousands of free hours to throw at trail building.
If you want to be part of it, go to the park's new website at www.santanpark.net and sign up for their mailing list.
