| Attention Mid Atlantic Riders Where To Ride>>>>>>>>>>>> | MrrrG Jan 20, 2003 11:14 PM | | My buds and I live in VA and were looking for a great place for a mountain bike vacation. Last year I posted a similar question and you guys suggested Tsali and Dupont. We did them both and they were awesome. This year we are looking for something in the area of WV, PA, NC, TN, MD, and of course good old Virginia. We are mid level riders and are looking for some good single track with some technical thrills thrown in. Let me know what you got for us this time. By the way we did Kennison Mountain in WV and it was awesome! If you're within 6 hours of this place you got to check out the area. About 15 years behind the rest of the civilized world but the area is beautiful. |
| been to Douthat SP in VA? (and about that remark...) | davis Jan 21, 2003 4:20 AM | | First off, I think the remark that my area is 15 years behind is way off base. We're at least 50 years behind. No offense taken.
Now, have you ridden Douthat State Park in VA? I think its in Bath County towards the VA/WV line. If you haven't, you got to. It may be the best ride in VA. Probably 30+ miles of killer, rocky, rooty, switchbacking singletrack. Bring an extra lung, the climbs are ruthless. The descents are legendary. The old race course covered both halves of the park, but you could easily get two good days of riding by splitting the course in half. Nice cabins available for rent, but if you camp, try to set up away from the little stream. I've seen it turn into a raging river overnight and carry tents and other supplies away. I've got some pics of the trails/park from previous trips I can post after I find them.

Wild Oak trail - can be as long as 26 miles, but there are several different routes you can take. Reviews here:
