| My Old Melon Protector... how I love thee.... | Rocket Boy Feb 20, 2003 8:38 AM | | This is my first "cool" helmet. The absolute first helmet I ever owned was the one I got from the Ames Department store... a foam jobbie complete with shower cap style stretchy mesh thing bearing that dreaded name... "HUFFY". I didn't care, it was core equipment! But, I was rummaging through my old bike stuff this morning and came across my ol' reliable melon protector. I don't think I'll ever throw it out.
Stickers... when we're 14, 15, and 16, your bikes, helmets, notebooks and household pet are covered in stickers. "Let no area of any of these items go un-stickered" - that was our creed.
This helmet has some of my all time favorite stickers on it. On the side, the red "no fe" is actually a "No Fear" sticker I bought in Lake Placid right before my first DH race ever, back in 1996.
The Visor I bought that same summer, and the pinstripes I actually painted with my mom's "antique white" spray paint... came out good! Although a lot of it's chipped off.
The "Eat Dirt" sticker on the back is my all time Favorite. I got that at a XC race here in NY. A company named "Hammer Lane" used to make them, but I think they went out of biz.
The Duct Tape goes without saying. You have to have duct tape on at least one piece of biking paraphernalia. This duct tape holds my visor on :]
Ok, that's it. Just thought I'd share.
Spring is coming they say....
