I hate creeks, though some deal with them I do not. My question is is it OK to remove and replace your headset cups more than once? I had a creak I could not stop then I took my headset cups off, cleaned and greased them and the creak stopped. Well we had a lot of rain and my bike got caked up and the creak came back! Now I want to try the smae procedure again. Also how would this happen I thought the headset should be tight enough to not allow this.

Might be your stem.... stem-to-steer tube connection or stem-to-handlebar connection. Might be chasing the wrong problem.

I agree with FRC on this one. If you took the cups out cleaned and greased then there probably shouldn't be a reason for this creak there. Pull your stem, clean and grease (very lightly) the interface between the stem and steerer and your handle bar and stem. I'm going to add to this also, put a very very light layer of grease on the tops and bottoms of any spacers, I've run into situations in the shop where these shift ever so slightly against each other and make a horendous racket. If the problems persists, post again and we'll rack our collective skulls some more.

happy trails...

p.s. the head tube could also need to be faced and reamed, but this is quite expensive to have done, and should be looked at as a last resort, try the above fixes first, then consider this option if nothing else works.
