Another disturbing eBay scam?(5 posts)

Another disturbing eBay scam?TheWanderer

So I just checked my email at the account I use for my eBay transactions, and I had a confirmation email from eBay about changing my password. It was an authentic email, one of those that a site will send you with a unique link for you to sign in from when you forget your password, or when you want to change your password. I haven't requested this recently, if ever.

The kicker is that it says: "This request was made from" and shows the IP address, which is not mine! It's not even the same ISP. I figure that maybe some choad thought he could get my password by putting in my username and clicking the "forgot password?" link on the eBay sign in page. So in light of all the bad goings-on with auction stealing and whatnot, I figured I'd throw this one out here also. Stay safe!

It could have been an incocent mistake also. I know that I have a ton of different logins for various site and usually forget which one I use where. So someone could have typed in the incorect one and thought it was theres and requested the password.
Ebay warningDSR

Ebay recently sent out or posted (don't remember) a warning against this exact type of scam. It specifically addressed those who used their email address as their ebay ID (which I do). I'd change my ID but I think that negates all of the positive feedback you've accumulated. Maybe not though. I should check. S
Thanks for the warning...Steve-O

I've been doing a little buying and selling on eBay lately and used my e-mail as my user ID... It's changed now!

Note - My feedback stayed intact with the ID change...
I've gotten several of thesePenguin

and never could figure out what they were for - I've always just deleted them. The possibilty of a scam came to my mind too.

Has anyone gotten these same messages in German? A couple of them came to me that way. I don't use my e-mail as my user ID.
