As for me I go off-roading, snowboarding and paintballing!!!! I love playing speedball. Here's a shot from a practice against a pro team. I'm the one on the left. |

| Hey RB | Mackie Feb 21, 2003 9:35 AM | | I saw that you work in NYC - where do you live & where do you surf. Where do you ride, for that matter? |
| Well, I just work here but details follow..... | Rev Bubba Feb 21, 2003 10:29 AM | | I live in Rockaway, NJ which is about 40 miles west. Exist 37 off of Rt. 80.
My home ride is Mahlon D. Reservation in Jefferson, NJ but I also ride Allamuchy, the trails behind my house, Kittatinny State Park, Lewis Morris, Ringwood, etc. Basically northern NJ with the occassional trip to Jim Thorpe.
My surfing is usually done at Lavallette, NJ, sometimes at Island Beach State Park. Nothing very exciting and no where near as often as I'd like. I used to surf a lot more but time has caught up and I ride more than I surf. Much more. |
| Well, as a New York City guy.. | Mackie Feb 21, 2003 11:38 AM | | I used to surf Jersey & LI all the time - Manesquan (sp?) was always fun. Now I'm only down on the shore to bike - Hartshorn is a fun little park. How's Allaminchy. Have you been to Round Valley?
Ever het up to any of the trails in Westchester? |

I was also passionate about boarding, but it's kind of subsided because I haven't gone (and probably not going) this year. Other than that, I'm passionate about my dog and GF (not in that order). |

It's something on my "things I'd like to try one day" list. Boy, that list is getting long... ;-)
P-) |
| Yes! | pedalAZ Feb 21, 2003 10:56 AM | | Last weekend was huge while you were at Old Pueblo. Unfortunately, that may have been this season's only good date.
Apart from the Grand Canyon, where it is nigh impossible to get a permit, there is great boating on the Upper Salt, Upper Verde, Tonto Creek, and on some other smaller creeks, including the East Verde, Wet Beaver Creek, Dry Beaver Creek, Clear Creek, Agua Fria, Oak Creek, East Fork of the Black River, the Upper Gila in New Mexico, etc.
If you drive up to 9 hours, you pick up the Southern end of the Sierras, including the Kern and Kaweah systems and creeks, or up into the Four Corners area for the Animas, Piedra, San Juan, Dolores, Rio Grande, Colorado, Green, and lots of steep creeks in SW Colorado and Northern New Mexico.
My group has kayak passionites that travel as far as Africa and South Marica to paddle. |

I have 2 children, a wife and a dog, I play (if you can call it that) the guitar, a little keys. Maybe we can form a passionite band...
I'm not a very good musician, but I make up for it by being an engineer at shows. Heres one from last weekend.
The 5th Dimension
So, what are the rest of you passionite about?

| COOL! I do sound too....... | krank Feb 21, 2003 11:42 AM | | I love it, except for the lack of respect by some bands. I had a manager yell at me while "his" band was playing. They sucked so hard and I couldn't turn down the suck knob enough. Henry Rollins said it best, to paraphrase he said that the sound guys are there hours before and hours after the band and do way more work than the band ever could. |
| Hey! | Dr.Faustus Feb 21, 2003 12:00 PM | | Krank,
How did I not know this?!?! Did I just space it, or had you not mentioned it. I think you know that I design and build speakers and am a general A/V geek. Let's talk sound engineering sometime.
Dr.F |
| Because not many people know that I do this...... | krank Feb 21, 2003 1:19 PM | | It's more hobby than job, obviously. I've done sound at clubs in LA and at Anodyne, in ABQ. How much of a A/V geek am I? Well, brianc and I went to see TOOL, with a friend of his. They're watching the band, I'm drooling over the 200+ channel board they're running. I learned that TOOL double mics the bass drums. Each drum had 2 mics! You can get a great sound that way. Definately, we must talk. |
| Because not many people know that I do this...... | S.n.a.k.e. Feb 21, 2003 8:46 PM | | Krank,
We usually do 2 mics on both kick and snare.
Kick, SM91, and your choice, mine is an M88.
Snare, 408 top, 57 bottom
I've done shows with 3 mics on each tom, top, inside, bottom. We used 38 channels just for drums.
I used to tour, but then got married and had kids, so I do it as a hobby now, but still get to do pretty big shows. I will post pictures as they happen.
I love to chat A/V geeky topics, drop me a line.

| Learn something new everyday in Passion | Dave In Sharpsburg Feb 22, 2003 5:32 AM | | Hmm, never tried the SM 91, alway's used the basic RE 220. Have to check that out. Thanks. |
| Learn something new everyday in Passion | S.n.a.k.e. Feb 23, 2003 10:06 AM | | Dave,
The SM91 is not for every kick drum. It has a presence peak in the 'click' area of the drum (2.5-5k), and depending on your drummers head and beater choice can sound quite 'kacky'. I've used pretty much every mic I have on kicks, but always come back to the same few.
Beyer M88 (dont put it in too deep, back of the mic head near the front face of the drum)
SM91 (see above)
Audix D1 is nice too
AKG D112, D12, Shure Beta 52 (and all other 'football' mics)
Senn. 421, EV RE-20, EV ND408
Shure SM 57, SM58 are good too
There are other newer mics out, but I haven't had personal experience with them.
Regards,
Marc |
| I want that TRITON! | Harovore Feb 22, 2003 11:01 AM | | Hey, Marc.
I used to play keys professionally, then gave it up for over 10 years to collect a few degrees and get into a more stable line of work.
But, I'm back to it, although equipped with some older (let's say "classic") synths: Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 and Korg M1.
What an incredible range of choice the home studio owner has these days! I'm running Cakewalk Sonar XL 2.2 in my PC, the typical mixing software, but am limited by a SoundBlaster Live 5.1 soundcard (need to upgrade to a really good, clean one soon!), and use primarily my M1 as my MIDI controller. In fact, I take my PC to gigs just to use some of the choice "soundfonts" stored therein.
So Billy Davis, Jr. and Marilyn McCoo are no longer a part of the act, eh? I know they were on their own for a bunch of gigs, I think primarily in Las Vegas. Oh, well.
Very cool line of business you're in. When your act comes to L.A. and you've got your mtb, we should hit the trails and talk some shop, bro.
Later,
Herb

I mountain biked it a few years ago. Here's a pic of the Round Tops from the Wheatfield at Gettysburg. It's considered one of the most haunted spots in the US. On July 2, 1863 many a fine young man came to a very bad end at this place. Anyway, I find it interesting. |

| Fascinating time period. | Kpicha Feb 22, 2003 12:48 PM | | It really comes to life living so close to Manassas. Sometimes I'll go out for a drive and end up God knows where but, I've seen cannonballs lodged into the sides of homes from the Civil War! There is just a plethora of history in this area. Even in my mom's neighborhood, there are still banks that were dug out by soldiers and whenever people start building or renovating, someone always finds interesting artifacts ranging from coins, to wallets to bullet shells and canteens. The bullet shells and canteens seem to be the most common. I love the history in this area!
Cheers,

Running (too slow), skiing (lousy), hiking (okay), golfing (not so good), canoeing (done a few times), soccer (spectator only), traveling (love it), crusing (definetly love it), cooking (gourmet cooking only when have time) gardening (water and flower garden only - not too crazy about spring clean-up), lanscaping (yup), interior decorating (yep), hair-cutting (do all family's hair - even tried on self a few times, but didn't work out), cloth designing (very fond of), reading (mystery novels - Agatha Christie's ones), stock market (too cray - love to do technical analysis), and most importantly taking care of hubby and kids (enjoy the most).

Before I started mountainbiking I did ski a lot and in the summertimes I didn't do anything really. Then I discovered MTB in -97, it has now taken over the skiing but I still try to ski as much as possible - well a couple of weeks every winter. I also like to play Discgolf, a sport I started with last summer, really fun!!! Here's one of my best skiing shots: |
