| so the wait begins... | deanna Feb 21, 2003 10:04 AM | | got the tax check. it started burning a hole in my pocket, so i spent it... going to get me a boingy bike. i've only had HTs since i started riding in '96, this is going to be fun!
ordered a titus switchblade. guestimated ship date is mid-april. at least the trails aren't rideable. maybe the wait won't be so bad??
WOO HOO! i'm excited anyway! |
| re: so the wait begins... | guido_96 Feb 21, 2003 10:13 AM | | Congrats and welcome to the 'bounce club'!!...I'm the total opposite of you, my first ever mtn bike purchase was a Trek dualie and then I
went and got the hardtail...weird!! |
| Not so good at waiting. | Pup Feb 21, 2003 10:15 AM | |
Hope yr better than me...
P
congrats! |
| and the Sola????? | namaSSte Feb 21, 2003 10:21 AM | | please say you're keeping it, that is such a sweet ride. I think you'll love that Titus too, don't get me wrong. Congrats and I wish you patience until it arrives.
Peace. |
| KEEPING IT!! | deanna Feb 21, 2003 10:25 AM | | the 2 bikes will be rather different beasts, so the sola will still be my choice for the tight'n'twisties, fast trails, and any racing i'll do. one day maybe i'll be able to ride as fast as it wants to go...
switchblade is going to be more of a play bike... will also come in handy at a few locations that leave my kidneys feeling liquified when riding a ht.
d |
| atta girl! | namaSSte Feb 21, 2003 10:32 AM | | great call keeping both. speaking of liquified kidneys, I almost lost one riding last weekend. On a steep downhill switchback, I clipped a small tree with my bar. From there on out it was a blur but eyewitness accounts say the bar turned sideways (duh!) resulting in abrupt cessation of forward movement and a simultaneous elevation of the rear end. While popular in circus routines, it was not so great on the trail. In the words of Goose (yes a Top Gun quote) I "was inverted". The whole affair ended within a split second but resulted in my going back first, upside down into a large tree. My left kidney has been more than a little sore since... The good news is that the bike was fine! Wheww! |
| good thing | deanna Feb 21, 2003 10:53 AM | | the bike was ok... people have health insurance, not bikes! ;)
a few weeks ago, myself and 2 others were riding the frozen trails made extremely rough due to frost heave... i was walking some stuff by the end cuz my lower back hurt so much from all the pounding. the guys said they now had a greater respect for me since i rode that day w/o rear suspension (they both had fs), and never complained.
my kidneys are still mad. |
| Good for you.... What color and parts mix? | Rev Bubba Feb 21, 2003 10:57 AM | | If you are not busy, can you tell my wife I should get a road bike if we get a decent refund? |
| sure... | deanna Feb 21, 2003 11:27 AM | | a road bike was a must have for me, lack of close trails does that... i bought my road bike w/ a refund back in '98. upgraded all the parts last year with that refund. so 2 refunds in one bike! 8)
d |
| buenos bananas | JimC. Feb 21, 2003 11:14 AM | | I don't think you coulda picked a better one, deanna! Nice ride, but tell us about specs and color? Jim |
| welp, for the color... | deanna Feb 21, 2003 11:37 AM | | went with hot pink. yup... pink! always wanted a pink bike, now i'm going to have one!
parts? hrm... pretty much the same as on my sola--easier to maintain if i don't have to have a ton of different tools for each lil part. going as shimano-free as possible, and it's not cheap... so the bike probably won't be totally done until summer.
on the sola:
marzocchi 80mm xfly (100mm marathon is front runner for sb)
sram x.0 shifters + rear derailleur
xt front der.
cables -- yes
moots carbon bar
odi ruffian grips
hope mini disc brakes
atac pedals (titan on sola, probably just carbon on sb)
rf deus stem
rf turbine isis cranks/bb
king hubs
velocity vxc rims
2 tires (rotate through the stock often)
thomson or rf seatpost
terry men's fly saddle
prolly stuff i'm forgetting, but i'm too lazy to walk across the room to check. ;-P
d |
| Bzzzzzzzzt, Terry MEN's Saddle? | JimC. Feb 21, 2003 11:54 AM | | the seat police have been notified.
I think you're gonna absolutely love the ride, and keeping the Sola... a very wise decision.
I'm envious as he//
Jim |
| yup, the MEN's saddle | deanna Feb 21, 2003 12:02 PM | | the butterfly is too wide for me to slide off the back, and it rubs inside my legs. fly doesn't do that and is one of the only saddles i can stand on long or multi-day rides. i've got one on each of my bikes. might go with their new firefly ones... same as fly, but has flames! ;)
d |
| Cool, nice flames... | JimC. Feb 21, 2003 12:21 PM | | my saddle has 'em too, but I'm told it's the flamin' @$$hole rider that put them there ;P
sorry, I tend to forget that not ALL US riders stay seated, and some do get off the back, my bad.
I think it's time for you to check the door again, deanna, it *might* have arrived?
Jim |
| FAKE! | Pup Feb 21, 2003 12:22 PM | | thats FALMES, as the *real* JimC would certainly know... |
| Dammit pup | JimC. Feb 21, 2003 12:28 PM | | I forgot, thanks for teh laguh.
I wonder how much a nite course in relearnig keybourd skills costs?
Untie, dislexics, he, er... eh?
Jim (needed a laugh, thanks)
falme. wonder how Eric's doing? well, I hope. |
| Did you consider the Talas setup? | BrokenBones? Feb 21, 2003 11:54 AM | | I have the long travel 02 and love it. The adjustable front and rear travel sure looks sweet. Great choice and have fun.
Rob The Switch is packed for Scottsdale on tuesday Whooohooooo |
| i did, but... | deanna Feb 21, 2003 12:07 PM | | i'm the type that likes to set it and forget it. so i'd most likely just set it at 4" and leave it. didn't see paying the extra $$ for a feature i'd probably not use often. did get the lock-out on the rear.
d |
| Sounds like your choice has been well thought out, enjoy nm | BrokenBones? Feb 21, 2003 12:20 PM | | |
| You'd be surprised... | Pup Feb 21, 2003 12:21 PM | | Im the poster boy for lazy sods.. but mine has a 71 / 70 / 69 degree head angle switcher, and it turns out I do swap the thing out every time we ride a long climb, switch it again at the top.
And that means changing a hex bolt! Id have never guessed my lazy behind would bother with such a thing, but it makes enough diff that I really like having the option.
Its really nice to have the extra love on the climbs, or for silly twisty stuff, and swapped back to the other extra love on the drop stretches. You might be surprised at how you'd use it.
Of course I dont know your terrain... ours around here is pretty much straight up... straight down .... straight up... and of course Action Bike!TM is *not* a 22lb Switchblade, either...
P
thinking wistfully of my own second arrow in the quiver, someday |
| i'm in the midwest... | deanna Feb 21, 2003 1:02 PM | | so most of the ups aren't long, nor are the downs. i'd have to leave the area for much different. one might call what we have rollers... several "momentum" trails too where the hills are all of 15' tall, but go straight up and down. faster ya go down, easier the up is. not much time for switching. won't be 22# either. did a "build kit" on a couple of sites, ave weight around 26.5#. not real heavy, yet not too light either. ah well.
pic below is one of those trails that'll feel much nicer on a fs than ht (steeper than it looks and all that). |
| yes, no kidney pureé, please | Pup Feb 21, 2003 1:52 PM | | amazed ya lasted this long! We are getting to old for that kind of abuse eh.
Tried HT once on the W. Montana brickrock trails: knuckles dragged the ground for the next 2 days. Never, ever ever again! (Last 6 miles I was sending out a prayer to my FS far away to please forgive me for cheating and I'd be faithful henceforth and forevermore.)
Long live barcaloungers. Hum, that sounds like a tattoo...
P |
| yes, no kidney pureé, please | NateHawk Feb 21, 2003 7:39 PM | | where did you get that pic? were there designs available for that thing? I wanted to put something together like that, but didn't have the equipment, tools, or know-how to pull it off. I ended up rigging the couch as a trailer to be towed behind the bike. I took pictures, but they're not developed yet :-p
Nate |
| Nevermind... | NateHawk Feb 21, 2003 8:29 PM | | I found the origin on my own. No info for purchasing or building one, either. Ran a google search and still found no info on purchasing or building one. I'll get my pictures developed soon, though. My couch is in need of some mods to make it work better, though. But given my tiny budget and limited resources, I'd say it's an accomplishment. |
| Where was that pic taken? | BBOC Feb 21, 2003 2:30 PM | | Former midwesterner (Detroit) here. |
| otter creek | deanna Feb 21, 2003 2:59 PM | | near louisville, ky. fun place to ride, but tends to beat me to death on the ht. |
| Little Ade's is a cool shop.... | Fat Tire Feb 21, 2003 4:41 PM | | with a couple of very cool trails (relative to Illinois, remember)nearby. I rode with some of the shop people one Sunday morning at Indy last fall. (Mike's wife and her friend showed me the trails and I rode stuff I never thought I would!). This picture must be from Indy or Dirksen, right?
I'll watch for you on the trails this season. We ride at Comlara and make trips over to Jubilee, Dirksen and Indy regularly. If you see us (we may be riding together or solo), I'll be the short, blonde on the yellow and black Juliana and my husband is the tall guy on the red Ventana Pantera.
If you want to hook up for a girl's ride this season, email me. It's a blast!
Happy Trails!
Lori |
| the pic was actually taken in | deanna Feb 21, 2003 6:29 PM | | Kentucky. but i can see how it could resemble sections of Indy. until i've got the frame + all the parts, i'll be out and about on a green and black seven sola from time to time.
know a few other gals in the peoria/pekin area, will let you know about a girl ride if it ever dries up!
d |
| the pic was actually taken in | Fat Tire Feb 21, 2003 8:49 PM | | I saw that right after I posted. Can't wait to see your new bike. I'm sure it will be easy to spot on the trail ;)
How was that Kentucky trail? We try to get around to as many trails as we can each season. On the plate this season are trails in Florida(spring break), Wisconsin and Michigan (summer vacation), Arizona in the fall (Phoenix on business, hopefully with a side trip to Sedona)and anything else we can squeeze in closer to home. It will be a busy year.
Ride Safe, Have Fun!
Lori |
| it's a fun place | deanna Feb 22, 2003 8:03 AM | | to ride... lots of rocky and rooty sections, a few hike-a-bike parts for those of us w/ fewer skills (i can't get over logs that are higher than my knee). only one really bad climb that i remember... the rest i could do ok. what you can't see in the pic is after coming down that staircase-like section is a right turn you have to make or you're over a cliff... but you don't really see the cliff unless you stop and look back b/c of the trees. just a bit unsettling after the fact!
d |
| i'm in the midwest... | porkchop Feb 24, 2003 9:04 AM | | looks like Nebo Ridge down hill when your almost back to the car. This is one of those spots that really make me appreciate my FS. |
| That'll look cool! Just curious, but why a Switchblade? | CTRider Feb 21, 2003 11:58 AM | | I'd love to hear your thoughts as to why you chose a Switchblade over other FS rigs, also what size did you order and where from? Did you order direct from Titus? |
| picked it b/c... | deanna Feb 21, 2003 12:16 PM | | the similar sizing to my sola was a big plus initally. i hear good things about their customer service. from reading lots of reviews on different bikes, it seemed to be the way to go for what i was looking for in a fs. and they had a pink option. ;)
it's a medium (i'm tall) and i ordered it from a shop in pekin, il (lil ades) that was willing to help bridge the gap between online vs lbs pricing... and it'll be nice to have the folks there to help set everything up instead of trying to figure it all out on my own.
d |
| Did you ride a Blur? | Pup Feb 21, 2003 12:28 PM | | Just curious since everyone and their third uncle twice removed thinks it is the Second Coming bike.
Nowhere as beautyous as any Titus of course, although Intense will have the Spider out this summer that will be nice, if not actually glorious..
P
sacrilege yeah I know
but Intense really is all about the burly |
| no could find | deanna Feb 21, 2003 1:05 PM | | though nonny is considering one.
not sure if i've even got a 3rd uncle twice removed... may have to go further south for that sort of breeding. :)
d |
| kudos on pulling of the word "welp"....... | namaSSte Feb 21, 2003 12:07 PM | | and hot pink? verrrrrry niiiiiiicce! can't wait to see the pics. just thought I'd tell you that I am running a Marathon 100 ('02 version) on my steel hardtail and LOVE it! Can't believe I ever liked my SID's after this fork. I think its a sweet call for the sb. Being a SRAM geek (as you know already), I couldn't help but drool at the rest of the setup. Nicely done D! |
| saw that | deanna Feb 21, 2003 12:19 PM | | a while back. i really would prefer a 100mm xfly just b/c i'm familiar w/ it on the sola... so i can tweak it to perfection! it'll take a bit of playing to see where i want the marathon. going to try to get all the parts to be grey/silver for color coordination issues... i'm weird like that. 8*D |
| or just plain weird.... | namaSSte Feb 21, 2003 2:00 PM | | not that there is anything wrong with that (footnote to Mojo Man) |
| *thpt* | deanna Feb 21, 2003 3:01 PM | | or achoo?? |
| Switchblade;Titus | SEG Feb 23, 2003 6:42 PM | | What up Got the switchblde frame waiting for parts, FAT TIRE CO. iN ABQ; IGNORANT BIATCHES. What a pain in my saddle .anyways im stoked. What up Nagle, Brian you non hill climbing snatch.. Peace to all.. |
