I would just like to say I HATE DOWNHILLERS , if you are a downhiller you are wreking the land, why the hell do you feel the need to dig holes and `build stupic mounds to jump off!!! you are childish, twice i have been hurt , nice cross country trail , suddenly either a bi hole or a stupid mound MAN MADE !!!! , no wonder the local counsil have started fining bikers on the trails and putting up fences..... leave alone , respect the nature , it hurts me to hear people are taking spades when they go mountain biking, get your self a BMX and go down the local skate board park, get off the natural trails......

ive said what i needed to

thanks

I have to agree there. Ive been a cross country mountain biker for 16 years and have always had the philosophy that we should respect the trails and not tear them up NEVER MIND digging great bloody holes in the track. It gives all mountain bikers a bad name that they care so little about the damage they cause. To me, the true essence of mountain biking is lost on these guys, the whole idea is to get out into the NATURAL countryside and pit yourself and your bike against what it has to offer!

If that doesnt interest you at all, then stay away from the countryside and build your stupid ramps and holes on some private land.

Over and Out!!!

Sorry to hear people are digging up your trails but accusing any and all downhillers for this type of behavior is childish and shows a true lack of sophistication on your part. Your flames will do nothing to solve your problem and weakens your credibility in this community. If you wish to have a intelligent discussion of this issue, then you better start by getting yourself out of the hole you're already in but supplying some facts and logic to your claims.

Sorry you think that its ok to dig up the land, as if there are not enough property developers doing that already?! Im also sorry that you think im selfish for speaking my mind, Im still not sure why i would need credibility here?? all the x country mtb's i know agree with my comments, you can find the facts and logic in my claims by reading some of the posts to my original flame some are very childish, for some reason people think im the crazy one for wanting to keep the trails nice!

One more than one occasion I have rounded a bend to find woop-de-doos created where it used to be a flat / cardio section of a trail.
sounds like you are a danger to other mtbrsJm
Mar 22, 2003 4:43 PM
cause you got no skillz!!

Maybe you should try the sidewalk, that is flat too, plus you probably wouldn't get hurt due to your lack of being able to ride.
oof, your words in my mouthBartok
Mar 22, 2003 4:52 PM
I did not say that I wasn't able to handle the new obstacles. I am better that the average bear when it comes to keeping the wheels down and the helmet up. I was only saying that downhillers aren't the only ones who drag shovels into the woods.

:)~
true, but as the other extremeJm
Mar 22, 2003 5:01 PM
I know of more than one place that have been "maintained" to the extend where they took out all and any obstacles(and im counting teeny rocks here too), they completely flattened and leveled the trail, basically "santized it", and worse some people cut new trails in this fasion. No, not every trail should have 5' drops every 10 feet, but putting in some fun and challenging sections seems to be the absolute last priority for some of these groups all to often. This, at least in some areas that I have ridden, definitely contributes to the problem. So yeah, DHers aren't the only ones that do it, I can't stand flat single track that just goes on and on, but on the other hand I choose to ride in places that are the complete opposite of that usually, and are a lot of fun to ride, but in some places people don't have as much of a choice. No, building obstacles and cutting new trails is not usually the "right" thing to do at all, but what I said above definitely contributes ot the problem.

I am lucky to have a good bit of variety close by (1.5 hours in either direction) can give me some nice mountain riding or some flat to rolling terrain.

shovels...mudferret*
Mar 22, 2003 5:06 PM
...can be used for trail maintenance as well. I've seen my share of stoooopid things done to trails, i.e.-controlled trails being modified inappropriately, sections of trail that lend themselves to erosion, piles of rock outlining the edge of the 'trail' on wide open slick rock (read eyesore and bad PR) etc... There are some idiots out there that ride cross country bikes to I'd imagine...

Haha, what a pathetic thing to write!! Do you not realise that you can only ride off ridiculous terrain due to the fact you have a foot of suspension travel. Try riding a rigid bike/hardtail through the same terrain & you'll see what takes more skill!!
a common misconceptionJm
Mar 23, 2003 10:57 AM
is that the bike makes the difference.

I had a hardtail last year(and all along ive had freeride/dh bikes of course) and how do you think i rode that hardtail?

I rode it like a DH bike, off the same kind of stuff that I did on my freeriders. There was a fair limit where I knew I'd break it on certain things, but I definitely rode it agressive and to put it simply "like a DH bike". Ask chupacabra or mtberzerker if you have any doubts about that.

BTW its half a foot, a foot proved to be too much out here.

BTW2 that was supposed to be a sarcastic post, not to be taken literally, but since you want to play....

give a reason for this sudden outburst. it is pretty obvious that you had a recent run-in with some obnoxious DH'rs. and understandably you would be very pissed off about that. but when you say what you said in the manner you said it, it sounds more like mindless bantering. if you have a reason for this hatred, make it known as well.

re: stupid downhillersSire
Mar 23, 2003 7:12 AM
I think its fair to say that its only a small minority of people wrecking the trails. The worst thing is that in my area it is usually footpaths that are being made unpassable on foot, which is very selfish depriving people from taking their kids, etc, on a walk through the woods. Its this kind of behaviour that gets people upset.

To say that you "hate downhillers" is maybe not the best way to have put it!!

All it takes is consideration for others and we can all use the countryside harmoniously.

Thanks.

Mar 23, 2003 11:00 AM
Really I mean, come on! some people ,, well because those idiots dug stupid holes they can no longer ride the trails because its all been shut off... well thankyou very much for not only digging stupid holes but making sure nobody else can ride the trails either..... I also thankyou for pointing out that i can not ride and may need to stick to footpaths, well the reason im now on the foot path is because *some* (hopfully not all) down hillers destroyed the natural country side so they had to fence it all of from the public.....

In future if you feel the need to take a spade then stay the hell out of my backyard, go dig holes in your own garden...

thankyou
re: stupid downhillersHrdkor
Mar 25, 2003 9:43 PM
Well ya opened up a can o' worms Flandercan, a lot of people vented, and a lot of people are a lot more aware of your pain. I've made a few jumps (no holes) in my day and always made sure that they were off to the side of the trail and that they were table-tops that anybody could roll or get a little air on. Just wanted to say, you're absolutely right. Even if you think of it as moving a little dirt around, you're not supposed to do it on public land. And when you do, you risk getting the whole trail closed.
