| Colorado folks.... | skeeter Mar 24, 2003 7:35 AM | | How far, and which direction from Denver, do I have to drive, to get somewhere that isn't overloaded with snow. I don't need any primo singletrack, it would be cool if some was rideable, but just relatively clear fire roads so I can get out and enjoy some scenery and maybe spot some wildlife. i mainly want to just get out in the woods, look around, and take some photos.
Did Pueblo get blasted with snow, and how about out towards Grand Junction? Oh, by the way, I won't be in Denver until next Saturday-Friday. Thanks. |
| Snow | zen. Mar 24, 2003 7:53 AM | | There was no snow for 30 miles or so around Pueblo..I can't say what it will be like by Friday, but when I left Denver on Sunday there was still quiet a bit of snow..but it's melting fast.

| wet wet wet | pixelninja Mar 24, 2003 8:05 AM | | You're gonna need to drive quite a ways from Denver before you find anything ridable right now. The entire front range (Wyoming border all the way south of Pueblo) was hit with this last snowstorm. The snow's melting fast, but it'll take a while for trails to dry up enough to ride. Right now, if its not still covered with snow, its wet. Its also raining today in Denver. I predict that conditions will still be sloppy by this next weekend.
If you want to get out and see some scenery, I suggest bringing your hiking boots, and head out on foot instead of bike. |
| wasted time | J.D. Mar 24, 2003 8:25 AM | | I have no idea what I am talking about. Sorry to have previously misinformed you. |
| Sorry, you'll have to drive to Fruita... | bray Mar 24, 2003 8:53 AM | | Lots of friends have been out there recently and have said that the conditions are awesome. IMHO, the Front Range is done for another couple of weeks. |
| Rain in Fruita right now | J.D. Mar 24, 2003 9:40 AM | | It's always hit or miss here, as I tirelessly attempt to explain. When people plan trips and get here, some don't want to get shut out to the point of attempting to ride wet trails and wrecking them for everyone else. Keep an eye on the forecasts and tail conditions through sites like this: http://www.angelfire.com/freak2/gvtrails
Your lots of friends must have been here on the the right days. Today is a miss, yesterday was a hit. |
| some just drive to moab... | kokothemonkey Mar 24, 2003 10:03 AM | | Thanks for the camping info below, moab is calling strictly because of the cold temps forcasted in Fruita.. |
| the warm rock is inviting | J.D. Mar 24, 2003 10:15 AM | | and it's only 100 miles. I'm contemplating a quick run to Bartlett this afternoon.
I've been at fredrock in Winter and it's 20 degrees warmer than here. That rock soaks up the Sun and keeps it warm. |
| the warm rock is inviting | davetoo Mar 24, 2003 11:08 AM | | J.D., I've heard good things about Rabbit Valley when it's wet, but I've never gotten anything but muddy and moto'd over when I went out there in the rain. Is Rabbit Valley just where out-of-towners are referred in order to preserve 18RD when it rains, or is there really good singletrack out there? |
| rabbit valley | J.D. Mar 24, 2003 4:34 PM | | Rabbit Valley is an unfortunate victim of motorized abuse. Four years ago, the motos stayed on the trail and didn't seem to feel the need to dig trenches with their rear wheel. The lunacy that has prevailed out there in the last few years has rendered (quite literally) those trails into oblivion. The BLM isn't too happy about it even and are taking some steps to curtail the ongoing off-trail abuse out there. The reason it's the place to ride when wet is because it's sandy and drains well because of this and so harshed, bicycles couldn't do harm the trails there at all. |
| Into to New Mexico...seriously. (nm) | NoBonk Mar 24, 2003 1:05 PM | | |
