Some more (bad) Nova Classic Pics (sorry, no ZM pics)Fat-tire

If there was one thing I learned yesterday, it was that I have to practice, practice, practice...not just on the bike, but with the camera.

Decided to spend a post Bachelor Party afternoon recovering by heading to McDowell Mt. Regional Park to watch those whose names I've only heard show me what they can do on a mt bike.

Yesterday was the XC portion of the Team Nova Classic, a three-day mt biking event attended by some of the top pros, including Roland Green, Travis Brown, Allison (Syndor[sp?] and Dunlap), and others whose names I can barely pronounce let alone spell.

The pro men's was 5 total laps of the sport/technical loop, which those who have ridden know "technical" is in name alone. As one pro put it, it was like a BMX track, which, again, if you've ridden it, you know that's a very true statement. (Just an FYI: Wade Boots--who I guess is a world dual salomn racer--led for the first 4 minutes...as an attempt to blow up some of the other top [non-Trek team] racers.) Nonetheless, the 6-mile loop couse is fun, and challenging in some areas...well, for us mortals.

About mid-way through the lap was where most spectators hung out, including me. The following are my (sorry excuse for) pictures of a steep wash entrance, with about a foot lip that most racers launched off of.

Where's Roland?

Just past this lip was really the only climb of the race. Typically, I can get about half way up before throwing it into my granny gear. These guys were in the big ring for the first quarter mile or so before shifting to the middle ring. It was very humbling...and encouraging...to watch these guys on a hill.

T Brown, I think
