| GWNF ~Lots of big pics~ | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:19 AM | | Me and some of the boys spent a few days up in Virginia dodging rain showers, rocks, and trees. It's a heck of a place to ride.
Below is a picture of our basecamp, located in the beautiful town of Monterey. |
| The weather was not so nice | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:22 AM | | friday and saturday. We managed a ride saturday before we got dumped on but I left the camera back at the house because of the water. |
| Sunday was a different story | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:23 AM | | I spent the early morning listening to the turkeys gobble on the opposite ridge. |
| In the beggining | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:26 AM | | we hit some fireroad. Our loop started at the Wild Oak lot, up Leading Ridge Rd to Camp Todd, up Horse Trough Hollow, and down Buck Mtn. |
| Wet feet | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:27 AM | | was the common theme of all our rides |
| The climb was big. | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:29 AM | | 3 miles of sustained climbing. Pretty tough stuff. |
| Everything was rideable | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:31 AM | | but the unrelenting slope, coupled with some well place rock gardens chipped away at your will to go on. |
| How I felt | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:33 AM | | halfway up. |
| There were some nice distractions. | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:35 AM | | Like this |
| My weak attempt | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:36 AM | | to shoot pics like Mugg. |
| Buck Mtn | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:41 AM | | was a big stinkin fun trail down the ridge. This part was kind of up though. |
| I'd like to thank the local insects | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 6:43 AM | | for ruining this picture |
| good pix, screw the insects. | abox Apr 28, 2003 7:58 AM | | Here's your pic without the bug (I think). |
| 3 mile climb , rough terrain........ | old Oi Punk Apr 28, 2003 9:28 AM | | .....now THAT'S Mt. Biking in the true sense!!!! |
| Forgot to mention... | yankeeheel Apr 28, 2003 9:53 AM | | that the climb gained about 2000' in that 3 miles.
I agree Oi, that's my idea of a mtb ride.
Thank you abox for cleaning up my pic. One day I'll steal Photoshop from someone and learn to do it myself. |
| 2,000 ft. in 3 miles!!!! | old Oi Punk Apr 28, 2003 11:15 AM | | My legs and lungs ache just thinking about it! so, did anyone make it to the top w/o walking any of it!?!? If they did, they sure are better than I am!!!!! |

| looks like I missed out on a good ride... | davis Apr 29, 2003 4:53 AM | | I talked to someone about 20 miles north of Douthat on Friday morning and figured that day's ride wash a wash. The wife mentioned that she'd like to ride on Sunday, but "something around here", so I didn't bother to call the house on Saturday night. That looked like a killer climb, maybe I should be thankful I wasn't there. Thanks for the pics, we're headed to Douthat this coming Saturday.
