a little help - What should I get> money burning a hole !cbchess

Well I have a problem that I almost never EVER have. I have money from a side job I just finished and I am not sure what to get.

I just finished building my Trail bike that I started this winter. It is a New to me 2002 Specialized Enduro FSR. It has 5" of travel front and back. I tried to build this bike modestly without going too overboard on the Spec list. Then My Chronic Upgrade-itis started flaring back up:

The Specialized Enduro FSR:

2002 Enduro FSR Frame

Fox ITCH rear shock (comes standard 4" or 5.2" and Lockout)

Marzocchi Z1 2002 with ECC

FSA Orbit XL II headset

SRAM 7.0 shorties

SRAM 9.0 Rear D

XT front D

Hayes Mag Brakes

Profile Stiffe Stem (very heavy)

Specialized riser handlebars

This is where I started breaking down and my upgrade-itis started kicking back in:

959 pedals

Brooks B-17 Saddle

Just got some LX ('02) cranks (not on the bike yet)

to go with the ES-70 bb

Big fat wheelset

XT disc hubs

on Sun Single-track Rims

WTB Moto 2.4s front and back

Thomson Post (in the mail)

Salsa Seatpost binder.(in the mail)

OK Now I have heard from Larry at Mountain High Cyclery that Romic has just come out with a shock to fit this frame.

Should I got for the Romic OR...

Should I got for some thing else? I was think about getting a front disc set up for my OTHER bike. That would involve and new wheel with Chris King Disco hub and maybe a Mavic or Sun rim. Then maybe a Hayes or AVID for the front.

My other bike is completely decked out:

The Ride as of Jan 2003

Frame: Schwinn 2000 Rocket 88 Stage One

Handlebar: Titec Hell Bent Flat Tracker

Stem: Titec Big AL

Head Set: Chris King

Fork: Marzocchi Z2 Atom Race

Rear Shock: Cane Creek AD-12

Shifters: SRAM 9.0 Half Pipes

Grips: Oury

Seat: Brooks B-17

Seat post: Thomson

Cranks: LX splined

Bottom Bracket: Shimano ES-70(XT)

Pedals: Shimano 959

Cassette: SACHS 9.0

Chain: SRAM PC-69

Rear Derailleur: SRAM 9.0

Front Derailleur: XT

Wheels:

Rear Chris King hub, 14/15 spokes, Mavic 517 rim

Front XTR hub, 14/15 spokes, Sun 0 Degree XC rim

Tires: Panaracer Fire XC Pro

So any Ideas? anything just jump right out at you?

Any and All ideas are greatly appreciated!

Chris

(I have considered selling one of the bikes and using the money with my new money to buy a frame - a Turner but that would involve much much more money)

1. Nobody is going to be interested enough in your bike setup (as in what kind of grips you have) to read all that information, process it and come back with an answer.

2. Based on the info you have given, what makes you think that anybody here is going to be more qualified than you to decide between a new shock and a front disc? Are you not happy with how the Enduro rides? Is the Rocket having stopping problems? If not, and you simply want to upgrade for upgrading's sake - set the money aside until something breaks.

yes I do have a bit of a stopping problem on the rocket. Now that I have felt how efective the discs are on my enduro- the xt V's seem sluggish and weak.

you are right though no use spending money till something breaks.

Thanks!

Chris
Romic or Vanilla RC would be nice on the Enduroandy f.

I sold my '02 Enduro frame several months ago. The Fox ITcH shock was one of the things I was disappointed with. Deflate it and see if you can get more than 1.8" stroke in the long travel setting (it's supposed to have a 2.0" stroke). It never really felt right, mushy while pedalling yet harsh on big hits. I replaced it with a Fox Vanilla RC and the suspension felt much better.

I've got a Romic on my new frame and i've been very happy with it. It provides a stable pedalling platform as advertised and it feels smooth and controlled in the rough.

If you're interested in a bit more travel (up to ~5.8"), consider a Fox Vanilla RC with a 2.25" stroke. Get it with a 7.875" eye to eye length (1/4" longer than stock) to compensate for the extra 1/4" stroke. My RC was shorter than the stock shock at 7.5" which lowered the already too low bottom bracket.

How did you manage to fit the RC's piggyback reservoir into the frame? Got any pics? I'm just curious as to how tight a fit it was...
The only way it'll fit...andy f.

is with the reservoir side mounted to the swing link. You lose about 1.5" of saddle height adjustability because of the external reservoir and the rebound knob is hard to reach but it fits fine, no clearance problems even at full compression (I removed the spring to make sure of this). Sorry, no pics.
