| How many FL Passionites are there? | bob May 29, 2003 12:25 PM | | After reading MtbIrv's post about the Florida gathering, it appears that there are a few Florida passionites on this board. I could help wondering how many of us live down here and where do you ride?

Ft. Pierce trail and Santos (rode Hardrock once, aint going back) |
| Tallahassee in da house | Wooban May 29, 2003 12:55 PM | | There are a few local trails here that are decent like Red Bug, Tom Brown, Cadillac, and Munson Hills. The cycling scene in Tally is pretty good.
Never rode Ft. Pierce, but I love Santos and Razorback.
Just curious, why won't you go back to Hardrock? |
| Hardrock scared me | bob May 29, 2003 1:06 PM | | It seemed to me that most (not all) of the riding at Hardrock was very steep and there was TONS of rock. Maybe I'm a wuss but I pushed my bike as much as I rode it. It seemed like a good place to get airlifted out of. I've heard some of the trail has now been sold to developers. Maybe a good place for some....just not me. I'll take Santos any day!

| LOL... I was taken out of there by bambalance once.... | MtbIrv May 29, 2003 3:47 PM | | broke my back there. But I'm still riding. It ain't so bad. Come to Razorback sometime. You can ride slow with me. I can ride most everything there... I'm just not speedy. I have to stop to catch my breath a lot. Esp. right now.
I'm in St. AuggieDoggie, btw. I ride Razorback, San Felasco and Santos on a regular basis. |
| See, I told you that place was dangerous! | bob May 29, 2003 4:30 PM | | OK now I don't feel like such a wuss. Irv, how's St. Augastine? I was sent up there for work once and spent way too much time in some tree house restaurant in old town. The house brew was excellant. I've attached a pic of me at Santos a few months back. I think the trail was Dr. Ruth |
| picture try again | bob May 29, 2003 4:34 PM | | No flaming the red hibiscus jersey! |
|  Nice! | MtbIrv May 29, 2003 5:18 PM | | Good place to ride. I'm riding Razorback Saturday if you're game.
Don't forget to send an email for the gathering... RadVertFLA04 at hot mail. If you want to ride RB Saturday, email me there.

| South Florida. | amex420 May 29, 2003 1:54 PM | | I live in Pembroke Pines. There are 4 different parks in the area that I ride regularly. I have been lurking for a few years, but I really have nothing to say. I just like to read all the write ups about bikes and biking.

| re: How many FL Passionites are there? | RalphL May 30, 2003 4:13 AM | | Cooper City (Lauderdale/Hollywood suburb) here. Ride and build trails at Markham. Ride Oleta, Quiet Waters, Dyer and Amelia Earhart occasionally. Have ridden all over the state including: The Porc trails at UWF, Redbug and Cadillac in Tally, San Felasco in Gainesville, Hardrock/Santos/Razorback in Ocala, Carter Road/Toe in Lakeland, Wilderness Trails and Alafia in Tampa, Caloosahatchee in Ft. Meyers. Probably forgot a few, too. Most recent new trail to ride was Alafia. Rode it with Rob DeGraaf (author and publisher of many MTB'ing in Florida books) this past April. Definitely a must ride if you are in the Tampa/Lakeland area. Ocala would be my favorite destination, though, just because of the amount of trails available between the three parks there. You should all make an effort to attend the gathering that Irv is planning. I have met many of the folks that will probably attend from out of state, and they are a great bunch of folks. Making contacts this way goes a long way towards enhancing your own out of state trips. Nothing like hooking up with the locals in places like Pisgah, N. Georgia, S. Tennesee or W. Virginia to help maximize your MTB experiences. |
| Orlando here | BillT May 30, 2003 6:24 AM | | Not much good riding right in the Orlando area, so I split my time between going to Lakeland for Carter Road and the TOE and up to the Ocala area for Razorback and Santos. Its a shame that Hardrock is pretty much no longer in existence for mountain bikes as that was by far my favorite place to ride in the state. I used to live in the Ft. Lauderdale area where I would ride Oleta and Markham all the time. |
|  I ride these South FL trails... | RaveOn May 30, 2003 6:49 AM | | * Oleta Park
* MarkHam Park
* Quietwaters
* Pinehurst
* Dyers (the dump)
* John Dickenson Park
* Ft. Pierce (only ridden once)
The ones in BOLD are the ones I ride the most on weekends.
Quietwaters has become a fantastic ride. It has something for everybody. BMX dirt ramps, technicals, ramps & jumps..it basically offers a little of everything you would find in all the other FL trails, combined. |
