I reached a cycling milestone!(8 posts)

I reached a cycling milestone!Billy Zoom

My first crash resulting in broken bones. I returned to the doc today to check out my ribs, and it turns out that Saturday's crash that resulted in my shoulder being chewed up also resulted in two broken ribs. I didn't think I was going fast, but I sure did hit the ground hard.

It's ironic that I spent about a month without a bike waiting for this one to get built up, and was chomping to get some rides in. After four rides, it's going to wait for me to get healed up.

What's funny is I never noticed how often people touch your side and shoulder in everyday life until this week. It seems like everyone got a secret memo saying "Joel crashed and is sore. Go console him by patting him on the shoulder and giving him a big hug." Trying not to wince gets old.

I haven't touched my guitar in months. We'll get reacquainted now.

Take care and have a speedy recovery!

Time will fly fast. In the meantime, getting to know your guitar isn't too bad. Take it easy.

I guess I only know how to tell others to "take it easy", but not to myself.

I recently developed a ITBS (Iliotibial Band Syndrome) - a running-related overuse injury....so I'm still nursing my knee. It's not fun or I should say it "sucks", when I really wanted to run and ride everyday. Oh, well.

...injured ribs are not a helluva lot of fun. Heal up, I was still able to ride my bike with bad ribs in the past, but stayed away from anything with enhanced wipe out possiblities. Cracked/broken, or seperated ribs are usually an annual event for me, not this year though, seeing as I haven't ridden much:-)

Wrecked shoulder and broken ribs, with 4 stitches in the hip thrown in for good measure. And a ton of road rash on both knees and elbows.

I wish you a speedy recovery, but from me experience, ribs take a good 8 weeks to heal. By week 4 I was back on my road bike and on the trails at week 6, but not pain-free until the 2-month mark.

Do not sneeze, laugh, or cough during that time.

Good luck!

I bet you didn't treat her right so she dumped you.

Hope you feel better soon,

How about giggin' with us now, Joel?Schwinng

Tomorrow may be my last live gig for awhile because I've started studying for my licensing exam. By Sunday evening I'll know how much studying time I'll need, and will schedule the exam either at the beginning of August or September.

BUT, if you wanna sit in on guitar tomorrow night, we're playing a low-key gig in Chinatown - some jazz standards, original fusion, then some rock (e.g., Stones, Allman Bros., etc.) if ya wanna sit in. E-mail me if you're interested - I know it's really a long-arse drive fer ya.

Heal up fast, buddy. Major drag. Just got that beauty of a bike, and now this. Sorry, man.

Take care,

Herb
Missed your post! I'm not much of a guitarist, anyway!Billy Zoom

It'd take a lot of practice to get back up to speed to where I was, and even then I'm sure I couldn't hang with you guys. Combine a lack of harmonic knowledge with a lack of dexterity, shake well, and there I am. Ising much better than I play, and I'm a little rusty there too. Of course, I could always pull an Elvis with the guitar and make it a prop. :)

I was at a club when you were playing seeing Little Charlie and the Nightcats. Lots of fun.
