I'm thinking of getting this bike for myself (if I can make enough money for it). I'm just wondering if anyone has ridden it, and how did you like it? TIA. It's an Epic Pro '03, btw.

Sorry for the poor quality. I just can't get it big and clear enough to fit in the Photo Upload Window.

Happy ride...

I talked to a fool on a trail who was riding one. He liked it overall but didn't care for that little "jolt" when you first hit a bump as the inertial valve engages.

Maybe for Racing this is an awesome bike, but for me personally, when I ride FS I was full-time plush!
Thanks! I rode it for an hour in the woods...michigantammy

and didn't really notice that much difference from my old "cheapy" bike. Either the "brain" that works so well on the rough terrains, or I'm just used to riding on tough surfaces with the cheapy one....and got so numb that I can't tell the difference? Any bike would be a better bike than mine anyway.

I thought someone might have had it and ridden it for awhile, that might be able to tell if there is any good.

Thanks again.

I'd definitely recommend going to a fully-active FS bike if you're not racing... might as well make that long trail ride as comfortable as possible. If you like Specialized, the Enduro line is a pretty good starting point.

If you want to go boutique frame (Titus, Intense, Ellsworth, etc...), that's fine too, but make sure you like the ride quality before busting out the wallet.
Thanks, J.S., for your recommendation....michigantammy

I really appreciate your input. I want a good decent bike, but don't want to spend a fortune on it. This will be it. No more bikes after this... Wait, maybe a road bike :). So I want to take my time to look around.

Thanks again for the input.

Happy trails,

Tammy

Yeah Right! (independent of the road bike) :P
lol! I guess I'm not the only one said "no more bikes...." thoumichigantammy

BTW, here's my Army folding bike that I got for Christmas (it finally came only 3 months later). I just need to get a new fork, then I'll be all set...to travel. I even got a case for it, too.

I test rode one.

I'm currently riding a S-Works FSR. After riding the Epic, I was planning on selling the FSR. But after some thought, I realized that it would be smart to hold onto the FSR. The Epic is a superior race bike. But it does not do much to aid "comfort". Im keeping the FSR for those ultra long enduro races, 24 hour solo races, or just fun bombing around rides. However the Epic will be my race for XC racing.

My take is that the Epic is really no more of a fullsuspension bike than it is a hardtail.

If you are not a racer, I would say no to the Epic. If you are serious about racing, then pick one up and go go go!
Thank you! I'm not a racer...but might want to do at least...michigantammy

a few times in the future, just to say that I've done it. I wouldn't be a competitive racer anyway, if I ever race.

I'm thinking of doing an off road Duathlon, either in August or October, depends on my condition. Recently, I was too impatient, partially due to wanting to lose some weight (quick!) that I've gained during the past few months (:, I overtrained in my running, and got an ITBS.

Maybe, I'm subconsciously chiken out? Why would one try to increase her 9-mile week to a 40-mile week, in a very next week?

BTW, I've found a way to have my pictures uploaded a little bigger without having to downsize them too much.

Here's another try....

And the last one...

I've seen the S-Works FSR, it's a very nice bike. I don't think I can afford that one for sure.

I actually don't know much about bikes and can't even put one together, if you ask. However, I'm still learning and wanting to learn. So any advice/recommendation is much appreciated.

Thanks again very much for your insights.

Good luck with your races and have fun riding!

Here's the Specialized Enduro.

http://www.specialized.com/SBCBkModel.jsp?san=03Enduro&bl=mountain&my=2003

Starts around $1630 USD. Fully active 4-bar Horst link, Disk brakes, variable travel (ITch Switch), Marz fork... check it out.

This type of suspension climbs very well, but you do have to sit-and-spin instead of hammering out of the saddle.
Thanks so much. I've got to check it out...michigantammy

I like to sit-and-spin on the hills anyway. It should work well for me then :).

Now you're talking about a big job...hunting for one, that is.

Hey Aesop Rock,

Thank you! I just checked out its web site. The bike looks awesome!

I'll have to check it out. I want to check out the Enduro (of Specialized), also. Well, I got lots of homework to do.

So many choices and not so much money....

Thanks again. Happy trails!
