| I would like to lodge a complaint... D'ville content: | UncleMTB Jun 30, 2003 11:16 AM | |
Having heard rumors of Jed's gentle touch in dealing with whining... I tried all weekend to compile a list of things that just sucked about the D'ville gathering.
I have only one.
There was not enough time to thank everyone in person for their efforts in providing my daughter Mary and I with a truly outstanding time.
The highlights that Mary expressed to me, during and after.
FP and Josh (Jericko bikes) welcomed us to the camp with refreshments and entertainment.
The Red Porshe (her favorite brand)... She enjoyed watching it put thru it's paces, and always seemed to be lurking around the next corner...and was there when we left sunday, after lunch and bike upgrades.(Thanks Pete for just being there).
The Reese racing guys. They were polite and attentive...and kept us company during the Swagfest on the rear deck in town.
JimC for his wit and a kiss to my underage daughter...good thing he headed for the border!
To Fast Eddy and his entire family...Mary enjoyed having a Mom and siblings for the weekend...
Ed's wife Nola(sp?) gave selflessly to support our Bullards bar ride.
Our camp buddy's Rob(Radair), Dereck, and PaulJ.
The ride at Bullards was just right for the kids...Many thanks to Eric(Ebo) for his logistics and leading the rest of the group.
We had 14 riders on the C ride.
Mary especially enjoyed meeting Francis once she understood what I meant by "The Creator" Comment.
Greg and Co. at Yuba for putting the Psylo on her bike and adjusting her brakes.
There were many others who demonstrated what the MTB community is about...Show me a kid who doesn't like fun.
Mary is stoked for the Tahoe gathering...(Come on Vacation request!!!).
And lastly...she enjoyed the Swag. The mini Phil Wood hub and stickers etc...
As for me...It is the people ;^)
Seeing the smile of Ed's daughter Alex on the single track...
The look of pride on Nick's face when the ladies in our ride group mentioned seeing him on the Downhill course...(he was last seen orbiting the camp on his bike !!!).
The compliments from those who met my daughter...
Knowing that a ride which was a last minute affair, gave some beginners and some seasoned vets a slice of buff single track.
Jed and Suzy put on one hell of a party...Playing in the river ridin' the hills, and hangin' in camp or town...Thanks.
To the people of Downieville who showed us a great time and put up with all the flatlander antics, that go with out-of-towners.
I really want to thank our sponsors...Those MTBr stickers alone were worth the trip...
Spending time with the growing group of MTB friends, was really a blast...(John racing after us on the bridge in town with a taco in each hand) And pulling out of town in the Glomar only to have some Demon fly past in a cloud of tire smoke!!!
Did I mention Swag...well sometimes there is icing on the cake...
To all of those who arranged for the Fox fork...Thanks a million!
I took our bikes to Yuba on sunday and while Mary and I ate lunch and socialized Greg and his partner(I forget his name) went beyond the call to get the Fox installed on my bike and put the Psylo on Mary's as well as showing me how to care for my newly upgraded steed...
I didn't have a chance to try it in Downieville as I needed to get Mary home to her mom...Sooo I just had to jam over to Boggs and do my short loop...Yessss!!! I don't know if it was the fork, or those powergells instead of dinner, or maybe just the high of a great weekend, but I bested my time for the 7.4 mile loop by about 4 minutes...
Do parts make a better rider?...maybe not but sometimes they can help an intermediate rider get the most from his "Ride".
Thanks again to all the folks at MTBr for sharing their Passion with me...

Actually, that was a burning clutch that stunk so bad. Sorry about that.
SPD sandals, especially with cleats installed, don't work that well with aluminum clutch pedals, especially when you're trying to feather the clutch and it gets hung up on the cleat just as you roll on the boost.
Great weekend regardless... |
| It was too dark to tell but... | UncleMTB Jun 30, 2003 11:29 AM | | It smelled for sure...

| 'Splain to me please... | Ricky R Jun 30, 2003 11:44 AM | | Where the heck's Downieville and what's this gathering business all about? I'v been down in Cuba for the last coupla' weeks visiting family and now that I'v returned, I feel as though I'v missed something really big.
Muchas Gracious! |
| No problem. | Drewpy Jun 30, 2003 12:02 PM | | Have you never seen Magic, the Gathering cards? The bike are just a way of getting to Downieville, the center of all things magic. Driving a car up the road isn't the same.
A "Gathering" is a semi-yearly event to find out who will be Master Magician, based on the prevoius months conquests. Everyone compares their data (held in those backpacks you see), and a winner is calculated. The Master Magician will keep the golden staff until the next gathering.
Contact your local gaming club to learn more.

P.S. If you are not, by chance, the troll from the beginner's column, please accept my apologies. |

| Damn | Drewpy Jun 30, 2003 12:06 PM | | I already have a little package. |
| LOL! That was funny. | AlloyNipples Jun 30, 2003 1:47 PM | | Thanks for the laugh... I like quick, simple humor. |
| Quick question.... | living under a rock. Jun 30, 2003 3:03 PM | | Can someone explain the Downieville weekend that I just missed?? Is there a website?? Is it an annual thing??
It sounded like a BLAST. I'd love to attend next year with my wife!!

| Look at the top of the main Passion page for... | UncleMTB Jun 30, 2003 3:26 PM | | ...The "Gathering" of your choice.
If you can't find it E-mail Jed and he will be glad to line you out.

| Look up, WAY up..... | celly Jun 30, 2003 3:26 PM | | There are links to assorted MTBR related gatherings at the top of the main page here on Passion. Most gatherings just happen, so you're best to surf Passion often (or in my case, lurk often). Some are annual events (i.e. the AZ Spring Fling), many are "one-offs". It all depends on who decides to take the time to organize the event. While MTBR helps out where they can, most gatherings are organized by individuals. |
| Geez, Rich. | Finch Platte Jun 30, 2003 3:26 PM | | Look at the top of the page and click on the D-ville link.
See you there next year.

Google should have it. |
| Thanks Tim! | Cruizy Jun 30, 2003 10:00 PM | | Jed and I had a terrific time. Thanks for getting Nic and I wine and for cooking the chicken. |
| I would hate to take undue credit.... | UncleMTB Jul 1, 2003 4:31 AM | | ...That may have been TimL.
I had a great time anyhow.

| No problem... | TimL Jul 1, 2003 6:31 AM | | Thanks to you and Jed for setting up a great weekend. I had a great time. Next time I'd like to ride with you guys. It was a kick to put a bunch of the faces from the pictures on this board to people. The funny thing is it felt like bumping into old friends more than meeting a whole lot of new folks.
Hey that Sunday ride looked great. Sounds like it was a helluva a drive to ride a Perfect trail. I didn't realize that much riding around Fort Bragg was above snowline.
Again, thank you for dinner on Friday. See you later.
Cheers
