| MOAB...What bike should I rent??? | UzziRidin' Aug 2, 2003 6:36 AM | | I'm going to Moab, UT for two days in the middle of August, and can't decide what bike to rent. Should I get a freeride or a cross-country??? I'm riding at least Porcupine Rim and two other shorter trails. I currently ride an Intense Uzzi Sl.
Bike choices:
Turner 5-spot
Intense Spider
Santa Cruz Superlight
Santa Cruz Heckler
Santa Cruz Bullit
Thanks,

| re: MOAB...What bike should I rent??? | Bill D Aug 2, 2003 6:53 AM | | Last August I was in Moab for 4 days. The bike I had reserved ahead of time was a Santa Cruz Superlight. The first morning I took it out and didnt like it. My ride was cut short by a bad storm, so I went back to the bike shop and the only other rental choice was a Kona Stinky. I made the swap and it made all the difference in the world. For trails like Porc Rim, and Amasa Back, I would recomend a bit more travel, and weight under me, than the Superlight. I have never been on any of the other bikes you listed, but IMHO, the Heckler or the Bullit would be better choices than the Superlight. |

| re: MOAB...What bike should I rent??? | mobius Aug 2, 2003 4:20 PM | | I would say go with a heckler because the bullit might be specd with a big fork and stuff. I'd say a heckler with a 5" SC on front would be perfect someone I know rode there last year with a Enduro with 5" in rear and 5 up front and he said it was perfect. |
| no question in my mind | Green Giant Aug 3, 2003 10:50 AM | | the 5 spot or heckler. No chairlifts in Moab... but killer DH's. Get something you can pedal up, but that will be fun going down. My first choice would be the 5-spot, 2nd choice - heckler.
I rode with basically 4 inches front and rear (hammerhead 100x and float r) last year. it worked great, but on Porc and Amasa back even more travel going down would have been a blast. |

Oh, did GG already say that? Ya took the words right out of my mouth.
The HH worked fine but I would have been able to be alittle more comfortable attacking on Porc Rim and Amasa Back on a five inch coil like the 5-spot or heckler... Hfly swears by the Bullit. |
| Titus Switchblade from Poison Spider | sdbelt Aug 3, 2003 2:41 PM | | I just rode Porc Rim today and Slickrock yesterday. Poison Spider has a couple of beautiful Switchblades in stock. I rode my 4" Racer-X on everything and loved it, but it sounds like you want a bit more travel, so that leads me to suggest the Switch. Great 4-bar all mountain bike.

| re: MOAB...What bike should I rent??? | UzziRidin' Aug 3, 2003 8:48 PM | | Well I called around to a few of the shops today to see what was actually available instead of just what they show on their web sites. The low down is that unfortunately quite a few shops are in the middle of re-stocking there demo bikes for the fall season. There's no Heckler, Spider or Superlight.
I haven't called yet about the Bullitt, but there is an Intense Uzzi SLX with a bashguard w/ grannygear, Fox shocks both front and rear. It will have 6" rear/ 5"front. It's a medium but I'm looking for a large so I'll call about the Bullitt Monday.
Thanks for all the advice everyone, to bad the shops are low on inventory right now.
Only 8 days to go Whoo-hooooo!!!!!!!!!!

| You check with Slickrock Cycles? | UzziRidin' Aug 4, 2003 4:13 PM | | I called the other day, Slickrock won't have the Spyder or Turner in until early Sept.
After calling all the shops over the past few days Moab Cycles has some sweet frames in a large so I went with that shop. I'm getting na Ellsworth Joker with a Jr.T up front. It wasn't on there website but they said I'd enjoy it better than the Bullitt's that they have in their inventory.
Thanks for all the input,
