Toads epic.....DGC

Epic because of all the rain we have had in the last week. It is absolutely packed damp dirt all the way down......right now. Come get it while its good! Dave Turner and I were hoopin' and hollerin' it up!!!

One pic and three sentences does not make an epic, this is only a tease.

You need to know the trail to understand. This post is also generally for those who have ridden it and know exactly what mid summer conditions on Toads can be like. Wet/damp packed August conditions here is like a 4 foot powder day.

In fact so good, i went back up this evening for another run, 2 in one day.....you just have to have been on this trail to understand.
yeah, northstar was amazing on saturday in the light rainJm

and misty conditions, all the trails were wet, a few rocks got slick, but mostly it was just fun and so different than normal. No problems with the biggest drops, a few boggy areas though, but all in all a lot of fun and just 180° from every other northstar trip ive done. Absolutely no dust. At 55° it was simply perfect for riding, you didn't sweat all over the place, stayed cool, but it didn't make you so cold you didn't want to ride.

sounds awesome, since usually you breathe down a pound of brown/red talcum powder dust at Northstar during the summer. It must have been so good.

I like the angle!

BTW, I've got next Sat/Sun/Mon off and am looking for riding excitement, camping is a plus. Tahoe/Silver Lake, ???

Any ideas?

Some of us are going to Mammoth that weekend. I think we're doing the lifts on Saturday... nothing's in stone yet. I've got the condo reserved I just don't know who else is going up with me.

there is a campground right along side the lake, also along side the highway at south end of Silver Lake, never checked it out, its on the trail map. I think I may have noticed it driving past there before. Your also right in the prime location to go do the BIG Horse Canyon Trail Loop.

Hey DGC, questions about tire choice for rocky terraintankhead10

I have had bad luck with my Specialized Enduro Pro's (knobbies ripping off of the side). I will be going on a four day trip with lots of rocks, like in your pics, I wondered what you guys are running for such rocky terrain. I use stan's BTW. Thanks for the 411. Great Pic.

Enduro tires, when thy are not falling apart, just dont hook up in Tahoe conditions anyways.

Ive got a pile of tires about 4 feet high in my garage, so i've tried a bunch of stuff, and I prefer Michilin Hot S tires the most up here. The IRC Trail Bear 2.25 is a good choice too. I also have had good luck with the WTB Mutano Raptor 2.24. Still all around especially when its rocky or loose the Hot S works best for me.

The picture is the Hot S and Trail Bear.

works very well also. Ditch the Stan's, go Oliver's.

There are guys locally here who dont mind a little more weight and rolling resistance and will run that same combo, the 2.5 Weirwolf and 2.24 Mutano in rear. The more xc guys shy away from such a big tire.
