| old bike finds new home | deanna Aug 3, 2003 2:26 PM | | my "stable" is minus one as of this evening. i gave my 1st mtb away.
a couple of weeks ago at a race i was hanging out w/ friends plus another gal who was tagging along for the weekend. turns out she was wanting a mountain bike, but couldn't afford one.
light bulb goes on in my head--she's about the same height as i am, and i've still got my old c'dale just gathering dust in the basement. it, along with a couple of boxes of various spare parts, were destined for donation at bicycle action project anyway... so i offered her the bike. she was pretty excited at getting a "new" bike. anything was better than the old non-working bike she had. it had stx/lx level parts on it, nothing fancy, but they worked--so this past weekend i made sure it was all properly adjusted... dusted it off, put air in the tires, and viola! it works!
now my old bike is in a happy new home to be ridden once again instead of gathering dust. that's what they're meant for right? =) |
| well done | funkpunk Aug 3, 2003 2:57 PM | | Did you make sure she got a helmet? |
| she had one | deanna Aug 4, 2003 12:40 AM | | a mutual friend told me that she was pretty excited about the bike and went out and bought some bike gear (including helmet) right away. =) |

| my bro found a new beginning with my old bike | striker Aug 4, 2003 2:53 AM | | I gave my brother my 1995 R800 C-dale road bike after I bought a phat carbon jobbie. He now rides it 3x a week and loves the hell out of it. I gained far more from giving it to him than I ever would have by selling it. |
| I knew I liked you for some strange reason.... | namaSSte Aug 4, 2003 4:49 AM | | and this confirms why....you're a good person! Nicely done Deanna. You made a positive impact on someone's life by doing something selfless. Just think if that inspires another to do the same, and so on.....(didn't they make a movie about this???)
Seriosuly girl, good on ya for doing something really great for someone.
Peace.

| You rock | Barry (LDF) Aug 4, 2003 11:34 PM | | And your old bike is happy because it gets to play again, like it was meant to!
HEY! I was in your town on Sunday for the Brickyard 400 at the Indianpolis Speedway. Seriously, I'm not a redneck. Someone gave me the tickets and I took my little nephews. What is the deal with parking around the speedway!!?!?!?! There are NO parking lots or parking garages. All the homes around there charge money and people park on their lawns! I had to pay $20 and then walk at least 3 miles (literally) to get to the raceway. Whats the deal with that place?!?!?
Whats the deal with people who think sitting in the hot sun and watching NASCAR is interesting? Its almost as boring as watching a bike race!
What happens if New MTBer Grrrl starts racing and becomes super duper fast and you end up getting passed in a race by your old bike? |
