6:42am Sun along the BRP(blue ridge parkway)as its sorta raining up here at 5500' or more altitude. The southernly moist eastern seaboard air is driven up the mtn sides and then cools..condenses..and rains, while its only broken clouds and rouge t-storms below near Brevard and such. Rode my bike in before the sun rose down Ivester(slept in the Balsam p-lot). Wet and slick(assuming one could see that is, with both a bike and helmet halogen..but was almost a whiteout as well from the fog and rain).

As i drove along the BRP at 11pm Sat night toward the very high and remote deadend Balsam parking lot(Ivester Gap trailhead)at 5600'. Lights, foglights, headlamp, wishful thinking...but one can't see sh#t up there while in the clouds. Cool tho. Theres a yellow line out there..somewhere.

The exit of the tunnel that goes thru the mtn at Devils Courthouse.

just below Slidding Rock

The rain was off and on constantly. My ride for the trip(as I "try" to ride)..just in from the FS road at its highest point up from the Horse Stables about 6-8 miles of grinding up up up, as i "was" gonna do Clawhammer yesterday and back down Black..except the rains came yet again, plus the trails were too soft and fragile..plus slick as hell, and me beign solo didn't help any. At least i had the right tires.

The trail nearby right after leaving the FS road and going up that super steep part towards Club Gap.
just below sliding rock...that sounds familiarThoughtfulPirate

That would be where the cop picked me up to give me a lift when i got really lost in pisgah last week. I need to go riding again this week.

I did that ride towards the end of May. Thankfully, it didn't start raining until the end of the ride, but the BRP looked much the same with the fog and rain and stuff.

Me at a stream crossing early in the ride (I don't have my maps with me in Utah, so I can't remember exactly where this is).

Me on top of Black Mtn. It was too wet to even attempt riding up the Black Mtn. trail with all the wet roots, rocks, and waterbars on that stretch. The hike was worth it, though...a blazing fast descent down the other side of the mountain topped off with some nice whoop-de-doos just before you return to the road.

My dad about to endo as he picks a line too far left.

..the trail pics were just as i was leaving the FS road up top. The skies were again black with gusty winds. That little voice that everyone has was talking..saying.."too wet..too alone..too far..etc..". So i took a dudes advice that was a local at the Art Loeb p-lot(where i started from)at the campground, and cut my losses and road north to the Pink Beds, then sizzled down 276(was gonna turn right soon down 475B FS road for a faster and less epic less trail damage ride)to instantly get another damn flat. As i dropped my pack to get my tube..i heard a bigass wall of rain/thunder/death/destructrion coming thru the woods..and me with like 12 miles of 276. Whammo! I'm changing tires in the torrent. Precip jacket was wrapped over my pack and gear so alls well. Fixed it and rode the whole way down to Davidson in a heavy downpour..and love-in it. Have not felt that alive in awhile even. Course that coulda been those wet and slick Mosq's talking to me as well on that wet and slick shell/tar twisty 2 lane descent. LOL!! Not my fav tire for suceh duty, but it was all good.

Have camped on the summit of Black once during a 5 day hike being the last night.

Thanks for the cool pics. I couldn't pull my camera out as much as i'd like since it was always kinda rainy, and its a digicam.

Once the rain started on the road ride back to the campsite, it didn't stop for the next few days. My dad and I were both quite frosted being rained out like that after driving from Indiana to sample some bits of Tsali, Pisgah, and DuPont.

That torrent that let loose Sat a little after noon was impressive. We found ourselves not only climbing uphill, but UPSTREAM. I don't think I've ridden and not gotten rained on at least a little all damn summer. I'm going through V-brake pads about once a month.
