load up the bike. grab arm and leg warmers, the vest, and shell. got the lights on the helmet and handlebar already. oooh, batteries! grab them off the charger. trailhead. shoot the shit with dave-m until migz shows. get the bikes ready to go. sasha the trail dog is raring to go. her shown energy level belies her 6 years of age. start climbing; it's steep-no warm up on this one. it's just getting a little grey. no lights on yet. about a mile up, some of us shed a layer, and take a breather. grab some pics. going on. the climb mellows in spots, gets steeper in others. a melange of smooth, tacky-loamy sections intersperced with rock strewn root gardens. it's getting dark now. one of dave's lights is on, and my bar mount is on. migz is between the two of us, as he has no lights tonight. he knows this trail well enough, it's as if he's riding by brail. smooth. sasha looks like the fly in the old math problem. you know the one. flying back and forth from train to train. she never gets hit; she steps aside at the very last minute, as she's heading straight back down the trail toward you. then she loops around and runs back up. keeping herself about 20 meters ahead at the most. finally at the top now. a few minutes respite. some chocolate is shared, and the various merits of beer vs. chocolate are shared. dave-m has the brighter pair of lights, so he lends one to migz. we start heading down. and it is wonderful. the moon is full. previously mostly obscured by clouds, it starts to come out, and we are welcomed into its beautiful light. a few stars are now showing. a few more pics are taken as we continue down. then. all too fast, the descent is over. more plans are made for future night patrols, as we go our separate ways.

great riding with you two. let's do it again.

Super fun ride indeed. Glad you guys made it, and we need to do it again soon.

Shot of my new steed. Love climbing w/ longer top tube. Lots more comfortable, and less wheelie prone than my prev. steed.

picked up a steel cove handjob. similar geometry to old bike, but a little bigger, and less rigid. I got my poo bear, but might've left some clothes. you should come up north sometime soon, and we'll ride. I got next mon-wed off too if you can break out then. Thinking about going up to steamboat, and getting a ride in and soak in hot springs. I was also contemplating going to glenwood springs, and checking out ride there. Heard that boy scout trail was worthy, but I've yet to do any riding there. Not sure if racing is your gig, but there's one in estes that you and Jason might be interested in http://hometown.aol.co.uk/teddycricket/blazingsaddles.html
