| Oregon's finest (pics) | sasquatch Sep 9, 2003 10:10 PM | | These photos were taken along the North Alpine, Tire Mountain and Winberry Divide trails last weekend. They connect up for 20-25 miles of killer singletrack through diverse environs and lotsa panoramic views of Oakridge and the surrounding area. Riders pictured are Jeff and Allen, members of the Disciples of Dirt, as well as me, Sasquatch. The views were really hazy from the local forest fires, but the weather was perfect, and a good time was had by all.
Here's the pics, sorry but no commentary:

| Looks nice...question? | mapguygps Sep 10, 2003 6:39 AM | | I don't know the area very well, I assume you set up a shuttle? Much gravel road riding?
Thanks for the photo essay, looks like a fun ride. |
| Looks nice...question? | sasquatch Sep 10, 2003 8:28 AM | | We did set up a shuttle. We parked a car at Winberry Campground, and drove up to the top of North Alpine. This is not the traditional shuttle, as this ride still had 200+ feet of climbing (but probably around 4500+ feet of descent. We ended up doing 8 miles of gravel road to try a "shortcut" and skip an overgrown section of trail, but this ride was designed to be 99% singletrack. The only gravel would be connecting the bottom of Norh Alpine (the Jedi section) with the top of Apline (1/4 mile of gravel rd.) Are you from Or? or are you a CCP finisher? |
| Thanks... | mapguygps Sep 10, 2003 9:13 AM | | Yes I'm from Oregon, live out near Scappoose. Haven't ridden much down your way other than McKenzie River, Waldo Lake and just rode 45 miles of the North Umpqua (farther south) a few weeks ago. Always looking for a good scenic ride. I have all the USGS topo's on CD and dig on adventure rides that link up different areas. Don't mind riding gravel or climbing. Is the trail fairly straight forward or tricky to find? Haven't looked on my USGS maps 'yet' to see if it's on there.
Thanks again! |

| Thanks for the shots. I recognize some of ... | OldSchool Sep 10, 2003 7:14 AM | | those trail sections from the CCP100 course (I just did a pre-ride loop). Did you shoot those with your A70. I'm really digging that camera.
Cheers,

| Thanks for the shots. I recognize some of ... | sasquatch Sep 10, 2003 8:46 AM | | Yeah, Those were taken with the A70. I'm happy with lotsa them, but I need to play around with setttings more often. Most were taken in Auto, or in Landscape. I shoulda used manual controls deep in the woods, or a tripod cause about 10 shots were blurry or too dark. |

| Oregon's finest indeed! Can you help out w/ directions? ... | SLinBend Sep 10, 2003 8:23 AM | | You've just provided the motivation for a road trip this weekend! Those are some amazing shots. Can you provide any info on how to get to the trailhead or where to get a trailmap for the area? I'll be traveling via hwy 58 from Bend to get there. Thanks. |
| Oregon's finest indeed! Can you help out w/ directions? ... | sasquatch Sep 10, 2003 8:38 AM | | email me and I'll give you all the info you need. mattdenberg@hotmail.com It's easy to get to the top, and easy to get to the bottom by road, but connecting the 2 is confusing (by car at least, it's easier by trail). Hey, I'll be in Bend on October 4 (a saturday) and looking for a ride guide. Are you busy? |
| thanks... email on the way! <nt> | SLinBend Sep 10, 2003 8:53 AM | | |
| Great shots Sasquatch-I'm inspired.... | free-agent Sep 10, 2003 9:36 AM | | to road trip somewhere this weekend for an epic! I really love the Oakridge area and can see it becoming a "Bend-like" city if some money starts flowing in.
thanks |
