| O.T. Never before available to this side of the divide... | clary: Nov 26, 2003 12:15 PM | | Most view Passion on the other side of the MTBR fence, but since there are bonified MTBRers and not just bottom feeders that frequent this site, the Bike Comparator has now been unveiled to Passion.
(For those of you who jump the fence occasionally and have seen this Excel program, you can hit the BACK button without complaint).
The Bike Comparator allows a user to compare components on two bikes so as to ascertain geometry and component selection.
Download the 3- Bike Comparator v.1.4 here with (mirror) provided. The files will also be listed in my profile (the little head to the right of my handle). Always check for the most current version before use to take advantage of updates (current version v.1.4).
Wheel sizes 16", 20", 24", 26", 650C, 700C and 29er can be processed. Can be used to select spacers, handlebars, stems and seatposts. Road handlebars, MTB handlebars, clamp and quill stems accepted. Outputs information about geometry and dimensions pertaining to frame and forks, cockpit lengths and angles, seatpost minimum lengths. Corrects bike geometry displayed whenever tires and front forks are changed from manufacturer specifications. There are 16 different reference points available to view the charts so as to provide a comparison relevant to your needs.

| Interesting, but.... | FreeRangeChicken Nov 26, 2003 1:47 PM | | I can't get it to load into OpenOffice (don't have excel.... refuse to contribute Bill Gates' wealth).
Have you tried running this on OpenOffice calc? I get a Read Error - file password protected.
FYI:
OpenOffice is a freely available office suite for Windows, Linux, Mac OSX, and Solaris at www.openoffice.org It is compatible with many of the MS Office file formats. |
| got it on OpenOffice, the charts have all disappeared... | clary: Nov 26, 2003 2:52 PM | | |

Bill's stated goal is to give all his wealth to charitable causes before he kicks off.

| Way OT, so don't read if not interested.... | FreeRangeChicken Nov 27, 2003 3:59 PM | | It's great that Gates has seen fit to donate his time and money to such a noble cause. I have no beef with that. Kudos to Bill for that, but does the end justify the means?
Who's to say that heads of other companies, if given the opportunity to compete and flourish, would not have been as generous(or more so). Microsoft has been found guilty of anti-compete and monopolistic business practices. This was but one case they were unable to make "go away" by virtue of their sheer financial might. How many other companies just could't stand up to them financially and just went to sleep quietly?

Personally, I choose not to support them in their business practices if I can help it. Doesn't mean Gates is a bad guy when it comes to donating money to charity. More power to him. I hope he does a lot more for mankind with the money he has. I just don't want to see him make more at the expense of other entrepreneurs.... others that may have the chance to be equally generous with their money.
'nuff said on that....
Ride... be well, K'Endo.
Happy Thanksgiving!
