| Mountain bike tours in Cyprus or other interesting places? | Ilan (aka Howard Roark) Nov 27, 2003 6:15 PM | | Happy Thanksgiving passionites! I've been MIA for a while but i'm ready to start riding again now that things are quieter at work.
A friend and I were supposed to go to Spain and Portugal for 2 weeks but he just backed out - something about problems at his job. All of my other friends are either broke (students) or already have plans. So i've got two weeks to kill from 12/12-12/26.
I was thinking that an mtb trip would be fun, especially in a place totally off the wall. I've never been to Cyprus and it seems like it would be different and cool, and everything i've read on the net so far tells me it stays warm in the winter and there's plenty of mountain biking. Does anyone know anything about Cyprus or mtbing in Cyprus? Any tips on traveling with a mountain bike would also be helpful, as i've taken my bike on road trips but no air trips.
thanks in advance,
Ilan |

| still in Texas.. | Ilan Nov 28, 2003 8:17 AM | | You're in Hawaii now? Cool. I remember you were working on an MBA. How did that pan out? Yeah, i'm still in TX. In San Antonio, actually, and working at USAA. |
| Wow.. | ArmySlowRdr Nov 29, 2003 1:34 AM | | I have insurance w/USAA; I hear they're a decent company to work for.
One more class and the MBA will be complete. I'll be starting it right before I deploy and finish around mid-March. Since Uncle Sam says its 25th ID's turn to see some "action" I guess I won't get to fly back for graduation..Oh well--would have been expensive anyway.
Say I remember you being into music. I just upgraded my home theater with a Sony comi CD-DVD-SACD player and a Kenwood DTS/DD receiver with analog 5.1 inputs for the SACD. I was blown away with the Dylan demo disc that came with the player. The Klipsch's never sounded so good. |
| Wow.. | Ilan Nov 29, 2003 6:59 AM | | Yup, USAA is a pretty good place to work. Huge (the SA location alone has 17K people), but dependable. As it turns out, i was also a member even before i got the job. My grandfather retired from the Marines as a Major - he's one of our 50-yr members.
Good luck with the MBA. what are your long-term career plans?
Yeah, i'm into music, but more with the creating side than the stereo side. That stereo does sound impressive though! |
| long term... | ArmySlowRdr Dec 1, 2003 6:31 PM | | .. I will need to earn 50K or more a year to maintain.
That may be hard to do with an MBA and only Food Service management experience---oh sure I could probably be a district manager for a fast food place, however I really want to do something outside the food service realm.
Maybe distribution/logistics/marketing--Frito-Lay?
Banking/Human Resources----Does USAA hire entry level MBAs:)
Perhaps the Defense Contract Management Agency--I have some experience in how contracts work, and in spending and tracking defense funds.
What I know for sure is when I get back from Iraq I'll have about 15 months left; the retirement paperwork's going in. |
