| Ideas for Decorating House in BIKE Motif | mntbikebabe Jan 14, 2004 1:55 PM | | I just bought a house and I want to decorate it with some cool bike stuff or something. Anyone have any ideas on things they have done or seen?
Also, I want to hang a bike frame - any ideas on the best way to mount?
Any ideas are welcome.

| For the yard.... | Mellow Yellow Jan 14, 2004 2:15 PM | | use copper pipes in all sizes to make a bicycle. Use flexible tubing for the wheels. Drill small wholes in the wheels at an angle and you'll have a bike related water sprinkler!
I've seen coffe tables made from bike frames and wheel hoops. Don't forget the Park Tool pizza cutter. Good luck! post pictures when it's all done. |
| one idea | AZBound Jan 14, 2004 2:21 PM | | Needs no explanation. |
| and another | AZBound Jan 14, 2004 2:27 PM | | I was Googling around for the road bike fork leg towell rack but to no avail. There's some cool stuff here http://store.yahoo.com/velogear/accessories.html but its probabaly more fun (and cheaper) to come up with your own creations. If I knew how to weld and had the equipment, my house would be full of recycled bike geegaws. One last thing would be to roll a mounted knobby tire through some paint, then track it all over the walls. Different treads, different colors - could turn out neat. No idea on the best way to mount a frame - just bolt it to the wall through the BB shell or is it a complete bike? Have fun with it.

| I have a suggestion... | mtbbrian Jan 14, 2004 2:39 PM | | Bike photographs are a great start!
I have lots available for just the cost of the print, which ranges anywhere from $15-20 dollars. I have many artistic images.

Serious offer, I would love to have my photographs hanging in someones home. I trade a lot with people on PhotoReview.com.
One other sugestion, if you have enough bike stickers you can use them as a boarder on the walls.
Have fun with your new home!

| the coolest thing I ever saw... | dir-T Jan 14, 2004 4:18 PM | | was a coffee table that some guy made out of old bike parts that were welded together. It had a rim with a tire mounted on it bordering a piece of glass that made up the table top. I forget what the legs were made of but underneath the glass were old 1-pc crank arms, chainrings, and all sorts of parts welded together. He was trying to sell it at our bike swap but wanted like $300 for it. He said that he liked it enough that if he couldn't get a lot of $ he would be happy to keep it. I don't know if it sold but I would have paid $150 for it. |
| you're purposely trying to have a bike motif???!! | laffeaux Jan 14, 2004 4:34 PM | | I've somehow ended up with bikes and wheels leaning against nearly every wall in the house, and bike parts have accumulated on nearly every flat surface... and you're trying to do this????? |
| HA! | Que? Jan 14, 2004 5:55 PM | | That's exactly what I was thinking. My place, by default, has a bike motif.
On to the question at hand...I haven't had time to do it yet, but I've got a couple of old blown up suspension forks that I'm gonna make into end table lamps.

| old chanirings ... | Dave S Jan 15, 2004 10:13 AM | | also work great for picture frames |
| Thanks! | Lucky Jan 15, 2004 9:25 AM | | I'd forgotten I posted that.
I'll have to take a picture of my game room. I put up a print of a vintage TDF photo and some metal bike-related signs I got off E-Bay.

| yer welcome... | ®andyA Jan 15, 2004 10:22 AM | | ... I've never forgotten it. I've actually kept that post in the back of my mind, but never got around to downloading the pics (until today). Now that I have a house, I'm collecting ideas for bike "art"/motifs.
It'd be kewl to see the pics of your game room...

| Velo Decor | Lucky Jan 15, 2004 5:47 PM | | I decided to keep most of the bike-related decor in the game room and the bathroom next to it. That's where the carbon fiber tissue holder is. I've got lots of empty wall space left.
Here's one wall. I got the GT and mtbiker signs off E-bay, and the TDF poster from Mud, Sweat and Gears. The white "moon" next to the phone is a trophy from a local night race last summer. It was hanging on the wall, but fell down. I need to try a different hanger in the back. I didn't take a close-up, but the switchplate cover has a picture of Lance Armstrong laminated on it, compliments of one Mr. Finch Platte.

| Opposite wall | Lucky Jan 15, 2004 5:48 PM | | Cycles Perfecta poster, also from MSG. She goes well with the pool table. |
| Bathroom | Lucky Jan 15, 2004 5:51 PM | | The print is from the Hilly Hundred, back in the '80's. The Columbia sign came from the local arts and crafts store. |
| Hilly Hundred print | Lucky Jan 15, 2004 5:53 PM | | Close-up. The frame was hand-made by my late x-father-in-law out of old clear chestnut. |
| Hilly Hundred print | bikerchic Jan 16, 2004 8:11 PM | | Kathy I love that picture! Is it available anywhere or a rare antique? LOL Seriously I would love to know where I could get one.
Cool ideas you posted too.

| Hilly Hundred print | Lucky Jan 17, 2004 4:13 PM | | The print was given out with the registration packet. It is, or at least was, a tradition that they commissioned a bike-related painting, made prints and gave them to participants. For some reason, that is the only one I kept. It originally had a larger white border, but it was years before I had it framed, and it got a bit dog-eared. I don't have a clue where to get one. You might try to get in touch with the ride organizers. The ride's out of Bloomington Indiana. Try a Google on Hilly Hundred. Maybe they'd know someone who still had one. It was from one of the years between 1981 and'84, which is when I attended. If you do happen to find one, let me know. I'd like to get one with the original border.

| re: Ideas for Decorating House in BIKE Motif | Michael Dart Jan 15, 2004 12:28 PM | | My friend did his 'bike room' with tire tracks all over the walls. It turned out great! He took a chunk of tire and used a roller pan. He used some kind of glaze/paint mix the paint shop helped him figure out so it would stick right.

| Way too cool! | Lucky Jan 17, 2004 4:14 PM | | That'd look great on the downstairs bath, next to the caron fork toity paper holder! I'll get it costs an arm and a leg, though.

| A few ideas....... | bikerchic Jan 16, 2004 8:23 PM | | First congrats on the new home Jenny and have fun decorating it!
Some ideas I have and yet to do is a quilt for a day bed on a solid background of a cyclist on a bike using different colored materials in the design. That way I can also incorportate some of the materials used on the quilt for curtains too.
Years ago Finch Platte did a post on some switch plate covers he made with pictures from bike magazines which were cool. I have yet to do that too, my bad.
I've also been working on a doll sorta like the "time-out" dolls that were popular a few years ago. I'll post a pic when I finish it.
Other than that I have lots of cycling pictures and memoribillia on my walls in my bike room. I hung all the event numbers of cycling events and have one of my Jersey's on one wall. Lots of cycling related stuff all I need to do is the quilt and curtains to tie it all together.
Oh yeah and the best decoration of all is my road bike, after all it's really "her" room. :-) Sometimes we let guest stay there.
LOL just call me Martha..........wait, no don't, he,hee
