New nor-cal race....(19 posts)

New nor-cal race....johnnyb
Jan 14, 2004 6:58 PM
I'm surprised no one has posted this, but in today's San Francisco Chronicle there is an article about the California Outdoor Sports Championships happening at Infineon Raceway this May. It should be good since its being run by Rick Sutton and all from the Sea Otter Classic sponsors. Its gonna have a road race and a couple mountbike races. I figure it should have many great vantage points since there is so little cover up at Infineon (Turn 4 should be good). Well, here's the link to the article:

What surprises me is thatPete.

...that its only a half hour from home and it should be drier than Monterey. I have no idea where the XC race will be held, but you probably already know that I work at the paper and the reporter tells me that the plans are for a "Sea-Otter North-style event". And Dan, the reporter, was pretty excited about this race.

I haven't been out there for a long time when I was ripping the track in my friend's old Cooper S back in "78 but I think the east side hills are where the XC event will be.

And that it's a fun track, but not in the bike sense.

...is my inability to read? I read a lot, but sometimes slogging through the archived postings while at work trying to make money is a bit daunting.

Pete, you are always right aren't you?

If people haven't had their fill of the Sea Otter this should be a good venue, don't you think? From an audience point of view it will be easy to see and move around from one event to the other.

And seeing how you know so much, how about those Fox Forx? I want to get one for my new bike. I went out and got the NRS, but the fork just sucks.

Happy trails.

"Pete, you are always right aren't you?"

Where have I ever claimed that? I merely commented on your erroneus claim that was apparently made due to your inability to read, or drill down a bit on the board.

"And seeing how you know so much, how about those Fox Forx?"

They seem to be nice and durable.

p.s. archived postings?
Where did he claim that you claimed that?AK Ken

If you can't figure that out you're even more dense than I thought you were.

..or hitting the return. I saw earlier but glanced too quick and didn't want to paste the link. Too many steps. Sheesh.

Yeah, I see it there about halfway down. Busy day.

Anyways, I was sincere in saying that you are right. And right again.

I'm looking at the Talas RLC or R. Need a crosscountry fork. And this one seems to be popular too. I can't remember, but you have a bomber?

Talas R is a good choice, as is the Vanilla, and Float.

...and more to get it put on. Not cheap getting the best. You got one? Does it have brake bosses? I'll probably go disc, but I have rims on right now.

we have a Vanilla R and a Talas R in our household. I've only ridden the Vanilla, the SO has time on the Vanilla and Talas. She loves the Vanilla and was worried she wouldn't like the Talas as much, but it seems to be working out well for her. I'm a coil guy and she's had a lot of air shocks, mostly for lighter weight and tuning options.

Hope that helps, didn't mean to butt in, I realize it can be time consuming to go through the reviews, and search the forums. You will find mostly positive comments about the Fox products though.

I've seen the reviews and I see a lot on the trails too. But I like hearing the opinions by people who are on this discussion board because they/we generally can give an accurate description right away.

I've been using a Marocchi Atom and an air EXR and they have worked out great, but the Pilot that came with the NRS is very soft and noodly. The steering is also kind of scary.

About the butting in; I think I'm just being haranged for being a little slow on the trail. No big deal, but the original thread about the race is the news and it should be good time.

Peace, out.

Blanchard

Thanks for the info.
I ride a Talas RLJFR

Been on it a year. I weigh ~190. It's not quite as plush as a killer coil, but pretty close. It's absolutely as stiff as a coil; same body as the Vanilla I understand. It's avail w/ and w/out brake bosses.

I especially like it for it's weight/travel ratio (3.9/5), stiffness, and adjustable travel (awesome to crank down to 3in when climbing).

Catch ya at Infinion :)

...Reading???

I have the Fox Vanilla 125RLC MTBr commemorative edition.

It has been really fine.

I can only compare it to the lame forks I had in the past so from that stand point it rocks.

The cost was not an issue fortunately so I can't comment on that either...

I'll try and make it down your way so you can try it out if you want.

Hi Tim,

Long time no hear or ride, huh? Saw your picture with Fast Eddy by Mr. Fagerlin, you were looking good in your element with beer in hand.

This is what happens when you multi-task and do MTBR at the same time. Getting batted around by Pete is always a challenge. But the previous posting was a little unclear in the message and unfortunately I didn't read all the other comments to get the gist of it.

Got a new NRS to build up, it rides fast on Tamarancho and around here, but any fast rocky downhill is tough with the rockshox pilot fork. The new Tamarancho passes by the way are cool.

Wish I had more time to ride other than commuting. The freelance workload is gearing up with the economy. As you can tell I'm not on the trail right now. I've been only getting out once a week because of work and rain. But I can definitely afford a Fox soon.

Keep in touch. Tuesdays, Thurdays and Saturdays are gonna be my riding days till summer.

Keep on trail-blazing

Blanchard

And thanks for a title that made sense. I saw the post below but didn't go to the link as it didn't say what it was. Oh well. Thanks!
