Passion for riding(9 posts)

Passion for ridingsparrow

So, this whole Passion deal has been going a lot of years, I've been in and out lurking and posting from time to time. Sure don't like the new version, but I'll adapt or bail out. Not too big a deal, it's all about riding anyway.

I am just now strapping on the helmet (and many layers of warm clothes) waiting to meet up with a handful of good riding partners. We'll be doing a little 7 mile loop, all single track, a couple stunts and drops (including a 60 foot long log roll) and followed by coffee at the downtown bagle joint. I suppose that'll really be my favored chat room from here on out. Riding then coffee (or beers depending on the time of day) with some good friends may be the best forum ever.

Get out and ride, we can all get used to the new forum, but ya gotta ride that bike!
Glad we had the old Passion when we did.....AK Ken

because it came along at a good time for me. Living in Middle of Nowhere, Alaska, 99729, with the nearest bike shop 135 miles away (and not stocking too wide a variety of stuff) MTBR became an incredibly valuable resource for me to learn about things I'd never be exposed to otherwise.

I've learned a lot about what's available in that big world out there as a direct result of these boards. I'd likely never have encountered Rohloff Speedhubs or 29 inch wheeled Asylum bikes (both of which we own now) if I hadn't seen them posted here. I definitely wouldn't have made the acquaintance of Hfly, the most knowledgeable and gracious Moab guide you'll ever meet. I wouldn't have had breakfast with LittleB and Graehme at the Moab Diner. I wouldn't have developed correspondences with folks of similar interest too numerous to list here. I'd not likely have visited a number of cool bike shops (and contributed to their cash flow) like that joint in Fruita, who are they again? I wouldn't have directed a pal from Denver there to buy her new bike.

The new boards are fine; they're just not as good as the old ones from my perspective. Other folks who visit for the first time now will never know the difference, but I'm glad it was the old way when I came along. I'd never have taken the time to deal with the new stuff back then.

I'm glad it was 30 below, I was injured, and bored enough to Google up 'mountain biking' back in 2001. Other sites came up in the search, of course, but the format of Passion, with the easily viewed rapid interaction, read/unread threads at a glance, and the alluring photo icon suited me best.

Thanks to the MTBR crew for making my little corner of the wilderness more habitable.

Resistance to change is natural and not always a bad thing. Many members share their same feelings and opinions. Whining about whining is still whining. Venting is good. Long live Mtbr and it's community. Its all good out there. Cheers.
The negativity is in your perception........AK Ken

Thanks for putting into words how it feels to move to a new community.

It's time for new adventures, and I intend to share the Passion on the new board.
