| Nice Cantis.. . . | Blo-hard Sep 22, 2002 9:01 AM | | I think you should pick up some purple anodized arms for that baby, and maybe a cool "straddle cable thingy" (I forget what they are called). Nashbar used to have some nifty peace-signs, stop signs, etc. I bought the "middle finger" one! |

BTW, there have been questions on how short a niner rider can be, you don't seem like your regular Clyde, or are you? |

| *counts 2 more, for the World Niner Population* | Cloxxki Sep 22, 2002 1:49 PM | | Ah, I see, freerider - low seat - rider taller than bike suggests.
Last night I visited a snow downhill, indoor. 4 riders at once, like in a boarder cross. Quite hilerious, as the snow was way fluffy, front wheels being digged in terribly in the first parts of the course.
I'm not a DH dude at all, but this snow thing really got to me. I want to build up a low-budget bike for it, an it's gotta have at least one 29" wheel in it.
I was thinking of a large XC frame as I always ride, designed for 26" Then use a longish fork, maybe rigid, maybe cheapo Suntour/Rockshox Metro 29" and a 29" front wheel. This should correct the 26" XC angles to become quite "DH". Seat down, throw some flatties on plus cheap discbrakes that don't pose problems in the cold, and I'm go!
Any suggestions? What are good angles to end up with for a dual-slalom bike? I may use the bike on a local dual course as well, trying to get some technical skills forced upon me...
Thanks! |

| Avid Mechanical discs | AK Ken Sep 22, 2002 9:37 PM | | work well for us in the snow and cold temps. Hydraulic systems that use mineral oil have an expansion/contraction problem with temperature changes, and you don't need big honkin Hayes brakes (which use regular DOT 3 brake fluid) to stop a wheel in the snow.
Avids are less than a hundred bucks apiece here.

thanks |
| re: Faster than your mom.... | banks Sep 22, 2002 8:22 PM | | WTB Dirt Drops with Ritchey Force steel stem, Shimano Bar end shifters with cable housing under tape up to the stem, Cinelli anti-vibration padding on the flats of the drops, Shimano Exage aero brake levers with the quick release functon allowing the lever to open;ala Campy.
It's a road-touring-mountian-freeride-adventure bicycle. The big wheel does it all!! |
