| Another Fork Option | Bigwheel Sep 24, 2002 6:39 AM | | Have been trying to track down this fork for 29" use for the last two years and it should be happening by early next year. Go to the Shark XC reviews on the review section for comments on this in its 26" format.
Spendy for sure, so not for everyone's budget. But LIGHT!!! I prefer the parallelogram style forks myself over telescopic--- But the ones I have been using are made out of discontinued parts and pieces. |
| re: Another Fork Option | Cloxxki Sep 24, 2002 10:35 AM | | Hi Bob,
I have received pro-forma invoice from both Hurrycat and Founrales for their parallelogram forks with custom length to make them work with 29". Costs are not necessarily higher than your typical flex-o-rama SID fork, and you get much better performance and, questinably, looks for your money.
Since I have yet to experience a parallelogram fork in real riding, I don't dare taking the plunge slapping down mayor cash for such a fork. Gary has experience with the Look unit, but still advised me to go with the Marzocchi.
Gary's text with this pic :
"Here is a niner with a Look fork that Gary Klein extended by chopping and gluing some alloy in the lowers. Forkcrown race to axel is 450mm and 80mm of travel! The WTB tire comes close to crown. The fork has great stiffness but I didn't like how high the bars were (about 40mm higher). This fork in the shortest size fits a 125mm headtube. Steve Potts has the fork now.
Note: the chain stay is 16", curved seat tube. The front Der cage was sawed off and rewelided to mate the raidus of the 42/34/22 chainrings. 180 SRP arms."

| Whatever | Bigwheel Sep 24, 2002 3:24 PM | | JG, I was aware of that particular fork setup and its shortcomings and am trying to work them out with Fournales. I do have experience with the parallelogram forks and prefer them as I have indicated. Their biggest shortcoming for me is all the pivot points. That seems to mean more maintainence over the long run. I am going to try a sample before I really get behind the concept, I just wanted to share the possibility with others. Thanks for the feedback, hope you get your dream Fisher soon so you can finally get to ride a 29"er! |
| Re : Whatever | Cloxxki Sep 24, 2002 9:34 PM | | Ah, so you're talking actual to the original design? I guess I missed that one before I bored you with my experiences, at least for getting price info. I know you are a real authority when it comes to parallellogram forks, and I don't mean to tell you what's what.
BTW, my dream 29" racer will be a custom built Belgian/Italian frame with www.ridley-bikes.com paint, the Fisher I'm expecting seem to become a training/beach racer bike for now.
So do you have some small scoop about that 29"-specific Fournales? I'm very much intrigued! I may have to hold on before I buy another fork... |

| Dooood, that's a cool setup!! | Pablo Sep 24, 2002 7:24 PM | | Is that one of Gary's early steel protos? Very cool. I remember seeing that on his site (with either a rigid fork or a different suspension fork) a while back. Maybe not the same bike but something similar. I think Gary would sell plenty of steel bikes if he got back into that biz (29" and 26"). |

| how do I check out stuff at rubber steamroller, | Cloxxki Sep 24, 2002 9:41 PM | | Hi Wade,
Is is not anymore possibile to join with a trial membership? In 6 days, the Community will sadly be closed, CommunityZero is charging us cash for our membership, and so far I have to meet someone that is willing to pay. If nothing works, I can give you one of my logins, to get to the pictures before the site goes offline. I'm working on a substitute/upgrade over the present site, but that's gonna take a lot of work, and also time! |
