| re: 29 inch wheel bikes are stupid | twonineSS Sep 26, 2002 10:16 AM | | way to try to pick an argument, what don't you go bother your mom, little one. |
| not so, I knew one that could speak french, and | vulture Sep 26, 2002 10:21 AM | | another that could do calculus. I have met my fair share of stupid 20" wheels though, completly untrainable. |
| re: 29 inch wheel bikes are stupid | sevenzero Sep 26, 2002 10:49 AM | | Wheels should be directly related to rider size. I am short and with the proliferation of disc brakes on MTB's I now can build a bike with 24" wheels front and rear to make the bike ride the way I want to, not change my riding style because the bike is too tall for me. I think a 6'5'' rider should have the option to build up a bike with 29" wheels. If I was 6'5'' or better I would feel like the jolly green giant humping a smurf on a 24" wheeled bike. |
| THINK BE FOR YOU SPEAK!!!!! | MAT Sep 27, 2002 8:59 AM | | SO YOU THINK THAT THEY ARE MAKING 29in WHEELS FOR TALLER 6.5" PEOPLE? AND THAT THEY ARE MAKEING 24's FOR SHORT PEOPLE? IF I'AM HEARING YOU CORRECTLY. SO TO PROVE MY POINT LETS DO A LITTLE HISTORY ON THE 24's THAT YOU LOVE. DH&FR STARTED USEING THEM TO TAKE THE BOTTOM BRAKET HEIGHT OF A DH PIG FROM LET SAY 14.5 TO A BETTER CURNNERING 13.5. ALSO BY PUTING ONE IN THE REAR YOU COULD TURN YOUR 70deg head angle TO A 69/68deg's. ALSO FOR THE MOST PART IF YOU HAVE A BIKE THAT CAN ONLY FIT A 26 BY 2.35 IF YOU SWITCH TO A 24 YOU COULD FIT A 2.50 OR EVAN A 2.70. NOW TO TALK ABOUT 29 LET LOOK AT BIKEING AS A WHOLE BMX=20/24 MTB=DH/FR=26/24 XC=26 CYCLO=700CCWHAT EVER THAT MEANS ROAD=WHO CARES IT IS BIG AND ROADIES SUCK ANYWAY! SO DO YOU SEE A TREND BIG WHEELS ARE FOR SPEED AND SMOOTH SURFFACES NOT FOR BUMPS AND JUMPS + THE BIGGER THE WHEEL THE EASYER IT BENDS AND FOR A BIKE TO FIT 29s THE CHAIN STAYS WOULD HAY TO BE LONGER MAKEING EVEN MORE FLEX THE FORKS WOULD ALSO HAVE MORE DEFLECTION AND THAT IS NOT GOOD. 29s ARE JUST ONE MORE WAY THAT CERTAIN BRANDS ARE MAKEING THE SPORT MORE ROAD LIKE "JUST LIKE CYCLOCROSS" SO YOU CAN SEE WHY I PERSONALY THINK THEY SUCK. BY THE WAY IAM NOT SOMEONE WHO JUST GOT INTO THE SPORT I HAVE BEEN RIDEING AND RACEING FOR ABOUT 6 YEARS AND THE LAST 3AS A TECH AT A BIKE SHOP. I ALSO COACH IN MY SPARE TIME AT WHISTLER BC AS A FR COACH.SO I KNOW MY SH#T. SOME OF THE LITTLE PEOPLE THAT I COACH HAVE FULL 24s.AND BY THE WAY ALL OF YOU GEEKS THAT MADE YOUR LITTLE COMENTS LET ME GUESS YOU ARE ALL XC GEEKS THAT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SPORT AND IT'S HISTORY.I ALSO RIDE XC BUT DO NOT WARE SPANDEX SO PEACE FOR NOW.
RIDE FOR FUN NOT TO BEAT THE JONES'S |
| THINK BE FOR YOU SPEAK!!!!! | twonineSS Sep 27, 2002 9:27 AM | | well the only thing i can say to you, you've already said for yourself in your subject line, congratulate yourself on a job well done, keep the freeride dream alive.
remember, they're all just bikes. |
| dear semi-literate malcontent... | sslos Sep 27, 2002 10:34 AM | | wow... i'm almost ashamed of myself for writing this, but here it goes-
first of all, i'm a former downhill racer, (top 10 expert class in colorado) with 10 years of experience working as a bike mechanic for shops as well as race teams.
secondly, i have raced every size wheeled bike, except for 29" (yet.)
thirdly, as a bicycling, hockey, and swim coach, i've seen the negative impact that angry, overly-opinionated people can have on children.
with this in mind, please learn a little respect and acceptance of others, and what they find enjoyable. try to find a more constructive outlet for your obviously redirected anger. finally, for the love of cheddar, take a basic english course! what you've done to the english language is deplorable.
sorry, i probably shouldn't have said that. but what do i know, i'm just a dumb cuban, who learned english as a second language...

| Mat, Mat, Mat--- | Bigwheel Sep 27, 2002 12:12 PM | | 6 years of Mtn. Bike experience isn't much to crow about when there are people on this board that were riding and racing Mtn. Bikes before you were out of short pants. So take it easy and ride what you like, where you like, when you like, but let others do the same----
PS: Roadies don't suck, they just ride a bike, like you. |
| THINK BE FOR YOU SPEAK!!!!! | victorthewombat Sep 27, 2002 3:54 PM | | my my my tempers tempers tempers. And, we should learn to spell and use paragraphs. |
| Not the Karate Monkey. Any monkey | who knows karate Sep 26, 2002 11:22 AM | | is pretty damn smart in my book. And he can whoop yo silly little a$$! |
| WHO'S SIDE ARE YOU ON MONKEY MAN | MAT Sep 27, 2002 9:02 AM | | |
| Nobody's side | Monkey Man Sep 27, 2002 11:42 AM | | I only ride rear suspension only titanium fixies with carbon seat stays with four-speed Mavic electronic shifting, radially laced wooden rims (yeah, I'm old-skool!) tri bars and studded tires. One fork leg steel and the other aluminum. But, hey, I'm flexible, I don't care which leg is which. This is the only ride that's cool, man, all you otha suckas with your mainstream rigs have bought into the marketing hype and sold yer souls!
I wear spandex shorts and a leather motorcycle jacket in all conditions, and if you don't, you ain't cool.
And I only hang out with people on the same kinda ride as me. So far, that's nobody, so I'm building a tandem to my specs in my garage so my wife can come along as the stokah, as soon as she gets herself the right kinda jacket.
C'mon fellas, bikes are bikes. Ride what you like. Don't ride what you don't like. Simple. Diff'rent strokes fer diff'rent folks. The people in the bike biz are (gasp) just trying to make a buck doing something they like. Vote with your dollars for what YOU believe in. |

| I know you are but what am I? | Pee Wee Sep 26, 2002 11:32 AM | | "I'm so happy I ride a juvenile bike I could just fly!" |
| Ha! I'm not sure I've seen anyone so bluntly pick a fight here! | Nat Sep 26, 2002 4:36 PM | | Pretty funny, actually. |
| No kidding! | shiggy Sep 26, 2002 4:54 PM | | Hit and run, too. and without any "reasons" why. |
| Controversy Sells | Bigwheel Sep 26, 2002 5:18 PM | | What makes me sad is that it seems that most of the posts that have inuendos towards the darker side of life get way more hits than ones that actually have something to say about the subject at hand, why we ride our bikes and what they are made of. Kind of like why there is always a traffic jam going northbound past an accident on the freeway that is in the southbound lane? |
| I'm think I'm going to use that at work from now on... | Nat Sep 26, 2002 5:53 PM | | If someone bugs me, I'm just going to say "you are stupid!" then walk off. |
| Wait a sec Nat, | Bigwheel Sep 26, 2002 6:50 PM | | I don't think the same principles apply when you are mano y mano? LOL
The new Maxim has an article on ways to use subterfuge in the workplace that you may want to check out instead---- |
| Good point... | Nat Sep 27, 2002 4:46 AM | | I guess I'd better run instead of walk. Might want to wear a helmet too, huh? And get my resume together... |
