Again, sorry for pics of all locked up bikes. I would have loved to get better pics if I had more time to walk the show during normal hours.

From the catalog "The Karate Monkey rigid fork replaces suspension forks designed for 29" bikes. It features international standard disk mounts, removable canti pivots, 1-1/8 treadless steerer, taperedstraight blades, and a black powdercoat finish. 468mm axle to crown."

4130 cro-moly like the rest, curved seat tube allows shorter chainstays, no toe-overlap, bi-sexual dropout allows gears or singlespeed, 135mm spaced rear, braze-ons everywhere, and 16", 18", 20", and 22" sizes.
Way to go Surly!!!Cloxxki

Wow, that fork is HUGE! 468mm is just about long enough to replace a suspension unit, at least the White Bros. no-problem!

Your pics make it look like all the innovative bike designs are 29" for 2003, so many new models, and soooo cool!

I want to have all those bikes, the OX, the Surly, the Kelly, arrggh!!!

This weekend I'll ride my niner again, to take away from my 29-inch-purchasing-feaver which I caught pretty bad!
The Surly with the various sizes, bi-sex dropouts, huge rigid fork, it's really something to consider, especially if the price is right, to get even more controversial in my biking : SS 29"!

Anyone know in which versions the Surly fork will become available? May even be interesting to 26" disc riders, to get a rigid that corrects for a 120mm-odd fork, turn an XC frame into a freeride rigid.

Will be hard to keep track of all 29" manufacturers and products, looks like 2003 with have at least double the offerings of 2002...

Thanks for the nice pics, Brett and Bob!

BTW, did you happen to hear any interesting rim or tire news yet? I'm dying to find a decent race-XC rim and more tires are always welcome of course.
Missed one--Bigwheel

Thanks for the pics Brett. Hope the show went well for that company that shall remain nameless that makes all the cool bike holding devices! Also that Vegas itself was not too hard on you----

Here is a shot of what would be my favorite new 29"er. Have been bugging these guys for 3 years to build one---- As seen in the White Bros. booth. Yes, it folds.
Missed another one too - maybe you can post it?2melow

Vegas was work as always. Met Sandy at Willits, Wes was out and about when I stopped by. I guess you let them borrow your truck,eh?

I missed that Slingshot. I missed the White Bros. booth too in fact.

Got to see the OX Brand 29"ers in the WTB booth too (didn't have my camera with me though. Looked like it had 140mm rear dropouts, and the complete bike was LIGHT! Maybe you can post your pic of that too for people to see...

Yeah, I am the only one in the Willits camp that has a decent vehicle--LOL Don't tell my insurance agent though----

I guess because they were in the WTB booth it is ok to say that the force behind the OX is Mark Slate with help from John Goggins. These guys know what is up and when the OX is ready to go here early next year it will certainly be worth a look for any interested in the 29" concept. Their Ti fork will be the bomb!

In Steel,

And Ti,

Sweeeet. Yea that rigid Ti fork was stupid light.2melow

I might have to pick one of those bad boys up. The singlespeed Mark had in his booth was sub-20 pounds. Ti everything - including this super flexy Ti post that stuck out about 18 inches.
You mean this one?Bigwheel

Yup, kinda like that2melow
Oct 11, 2002 9:42 AM

Where can we(if we can that is) find more info about the OX Brand? with them, Willits(of course) and RetroTec back on the market, there is some definite style back in the cycling game. They're beautiful looking bikes, that's for sure! I've got a WTB 26" that I still like(even though I don't ride it much). If that's any indication of quality, these bikes are gonna be the bomb!

I really hate this time of year. So many new bikes coming out I'd love to get my hands on. Gotta start playing the lotto here soon so I can win and actually get some of the bikes I lust after!

got to meet Wes and try out the Willits 'Townie' SS 29er with the Schlumpf two-speed tranny. Pretty cool! Took a minute to get used to shifting with my heel (kick the post thru the BB and you're in a different gear, kick it back from the other side to shift back)

Wes was cool - offered me a coveted Shiner Boch and watched my stuff while I rode. Great guys and great bikes.
