| Snowcat rims are available! | Messassin Oct 15, 2002 5:00 PM | | Talked to Simon, he's keeping the rim business and the bike shop business for repairs but closing the retail store. He's got lots of 700c rim blanks--any drilling, five day turnaround. |

I see farther down that Vicious Cycles make snow rims. Is that what these are?
THanks

| you are correct, they're snow rims | Pablo Oct 17, 2002 8:22 AM | | I believe SnowCats are the 'original' snow rim, I know they've been around a while. |
| the word... | Banks Oct 17, 2002 4:09 PM | | Snowcat rims are the only way to ride your 19"{trials}, 24", 26", and now 29" wheeled bike, in packed snow. They are VERY wide, designed for the Ida-bike allowing the rider to use 10 psi-or so, on a 2.2" tire allowing a huge contact patch=flotation instead of post-holing.
They will fit in almost any 26" wheeled wonder with the same tire, although you will have to make some massive brake caliper adjustments; remember you are not really going that fast. Cantis seem to work better for arm placement. Linear pull brakes makes the caliper arms stick way out; possibly catching your leg.
Not to sure how they will fit in big wheeled bikes; depends on clearance in the fork and rear end.
Do you need them??? If you like to ride in the winter and have a lust for riding on snowmobile trails, go for it. |
