I'm looking for a commuter tire/rim set up to put on my '03 Mt Tam. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with the WTB Terrainasaurus in the 700cc? If so, what's a good rim to put it on with a disc hub. I weigh just south fo 220. Thanks.

used the all-terrainasaurus back in denver- great winter commuter, good offroad on all but the loose, rocky trails.
btw, i could be wrong, but i think wtb may have stopped making 'em. i haven't seen one in quite some time.

on the fixed gear because they were free and the biggest tires that would fit to boot. They hold air just fine and have good grip on the pavement and dry dirt.

As far as a rim/hub why not got with the t520 Mavic rims and the disc hub of your choice in a 36h? Should do the trick---

I have to tell you that it confuses me when people want to use smaller tires for their "commuter bike". I personally have Nano's on my version and they are fast enough for me and the extra comfort and sure grip of the Nano's in all conditions makes them a safe bet. Oh yeah, I never can seem to run Nano's with more than 30 lbs. in them on or offroad and I weigh just south of 200. They roll that well.
? for ya...sslos

how have your nanos held up to road use? i had them on the atlantis, and started noticing a lot of wear. maybe i'm just paranoid.
since you've been riding them for so long.
thanks,

You will wear out Nano's riding strictly on pavement faster for sure. After 4 full seasons using them now on several bikes, I do have a few worn out ones on the wall, but still would be ridable on the street so that is what I am hanging on to them for. You should be able to get a good amount of miles out of a set for the bucks invested. The All Terrainasauras's will last longer, or at least appear to do so from my experience. But I just like the extra volume better as I said.
I've got 'em on my Klein SS 26"er....2melow

...as my commuter tires (Allterrainasaurus that is).

Wear is excellent on pavement and the they hook up quite well on gravel too. Not the best in the wet though, especially on trails. I've got the 26x1.5" version.

Nanoraptors wear really fast if you ride them on the road a lot. I'll ride 15 miles on the road to one of my favorite riding spots, ride singletrack, then ride home - and in just a few months i'll wear down those Nano's. But as Bigwheel said, they are a perfect commuter tire aired up to ~40 psi (thats where I like them so they roll fast) and seem to really soak up those gaps on the bike path on my way to work.

My bike (Bianchi Volpe) came with them. Good on gravel and moderate trails, rolls fast on dry pavement, big for a 700x32. The tight tread pattern with square block edges does tend to pick up small objects (including thorns!) and hold onto them. Did a ride in eastern Washington with them last year and ended up having to pick out over a dozen goat heads. Also, their braking is HORRIBLE on wet pavement - I do not recommend them as a commuter tire except for dry weather. Presumably not good on wet rocks either. Guess it's like a lot of WTB tires in that respect. Overall, a good choice for pavement and moderate trail riding in dry conditions.
