Hi everybody.

Just received my long awaited 36 hole Mavic 520 blue chris king hub wheel set from mean todd at webcyclery.com

Thanks Todd.

As you can see they are BLACK rims. They do exist on special order. Call Todd for part number. However, they are ceramic.

I often switch between road or cyclocross wheelset and my mtb set up. Neither are currently ceramic. Does this mean

a) I need to switch brakepads all the time?
b) I can run the cermaic pads on the regular wheels
c)I can run regular pads on ceramic rims
d) I need to post this wheelset on ebay and try to get some money back for them.

For what its worth my crrent wheelset is salsa delgado/xtr combo. everything is 36 hole..

i would show you photos but i keep bombing out.

Here's the scoop on yr pad question:

1. Regular pads on a ceramic rim will get eaten up really quickly. Soft pads + rough rim = you just spent $20 for new pads.

2. Ceramic pads on a regular rim won't stop as well, and will wear out yr rim sooner. Hard pads + regular rim = weaker braking & shorter rim life.

Hope that helps,

Joe

hmmm looks like I will have to learn to change pads quickly. Not good. maybe will have to rebuild new wheels without ceramic unless someone wants to buy.....

Those are some nice wheels.

Where do you live and ride? I've had good luck running non-ceramic pads with ceramic rims. I also found that ceramic pads will smooth out the braking surface on ceramic rims faster. Try those wheels with some 'severe condition' shimano pads and see how things go. At the very least I wouldn't run ceramic pads with your non-ceramic rims.
