| Longs Legs and 29ers | Humboldt May 27, 2003 8:02 AM | | I am approx 6'5.5" tall and am looking for a new bike. I am very intrigued by the whole 29er phenomenon, but I am concerned that I won't be able to find a bike that will fit me properly. I like to the look of the Fisher 293 or Mt. Tam. My problem is that I have a 38" inseam (true inseam not pants inseam) I am concerned that even the XL frame will not really accomodate my long legs. Will one of these bikes fit me or are there other brands (maybe 26 inch bikes) I should be looking at? |
| re: Longs Legs and 29ers | Figzeal May 27, 2003 8:40 AM | | I'm 6'4+" and wear a 36" inseam but I'm not sure what you mean by true inseam. I ride an '03 Mt Tam XL and just installed a Thudbuster seatpost. I bought the 27.2 post and shim to have the extra length and I'm not anywhere near the limit so I'm sure it would have enough for you. I love the XL and I've got the saddle pretty far forward on the rails and had the dealer switch out the stem for a shorter one and I still feels it's a pretty stretched out fit. On my 26" I did pretty regular endo's on the trails I ride and since going big I haven't even felt the rear wheel lift, it just rolls. Go for the 29er and you won't look back. I was going to keep my 26 for bad condition riding but I'm now in the process of pulling parts and selling them. No going back. |
| re: Longs Legs and 29ers | Cloxxki May 27, 2003 8:43 AM | | I'm 6'4" with 39"inseam, the XL Fisher fits me very well (90mm stem)and should fit you as a glove, with a 105-110mm stem as stock.
The XL is 21" BB-top seattube. Not very high for guys our size, but with a 410+mm post still sufficient.
Don't bother look at 26" anymore. 29" wheels have advantages for everyone that fits a bike with them, but 26" offers mostly disadvantages over 6'. |

I ride an XL Surly Karate Monkey which fits me better than any other bike I have ridden. |
