Ceramic advantage?(3 posts)

Ceramic advantage?roma

I'll be lacing up a new set of wheels for the 29"er which has discs both ends. Is there any advantage to using ceramic rims when you're not using rim brakes? Thanks for the help...

Save the money - the only reason to use a ceramic coating is to enhance rim braking in sloppy conditions. Since your brakes will never touch your rims, the ceramic coating on a disc brake wheel is totally wasted. Considering how much more you'll spend on the ceramic rims, you are much better off not using them.
Thanks...roma

...that's what I figured, but wanted to confirm. Thought maybe the ceramic might add a bit of overall stiffness/durability at the rim, but probably not.
