Out of the box 292 with a 26" a stock rear swingarm and a 26" rear wheel. I put a 100mm travel Marzocchi fork with a steel sterrier. The bike weight exactly 27 lbs.(a few pounds lighter than a stock 292. I have not riden it yet, is it too weird?

let us know how it rides. My experience with that type of setup was not positive enough to do much more than just a few rides.

Most intriguing. I take angles and BB height are all as usual?
My edicated guess on the ride (never rode a 29" full suspension) is that it will feel better at the front that the 26/26" Sugar. The rear will feel like it's way tiny and weird as it uses it's travel with higher compression speed that the front.
My 26/29 rigid bike was better than the 26/26 rigid, but the rear felt like crap, while I really adored that bike at the time. I guess oversteer is an appropriate word, though I never explored the bikes real limits.
I think the front of the bike gets the biggest advantage from the 29" thing, but now I have a bike with two biggies, I can't imagine trading the rear back in for a 26" anymore.

Downhillers often use a 24" rear, hardly ever a 24" front, despite the travel-related assets of such a setup. Looks like bigger IS better.

I've been considering building up a Banshee Chaparrel XC/FR bike with 80 or 100mm 29" fork. Shying away from the idea now, or Gary should be real hot on the 29/26 in suspension mode.

Based on the aesthetics alone I'd imagine it would be an awkward ride. I am more interested in the fork. Is there a kit to change the travel to 100mm for the Mazocchi SL?

I love my 292 xl and with a few changes got it down to 28 lbs even.

I left home with out this bike today and will not be back till the end of the month. The geo. is the same as a sugar, not a 292 as the rear end is shorter. the front has a 71 degree head and the BB is a little higher than normal. Marzocchi sells the 100 mm fork. There is no kit as the lowers need to be difffrent. The 100 mm fork comes in coil or air spring. I have been getting forks with steel steriers. It seems to make a big diffrance in how stiff the front end is.
Any one can make one of these, I think it should ride very well, but we shall see when I get back.

I'm riding (well, acually not with the weather in Western New York the last couple weeks) a 293 and love it. It was an upgrade from a Big Sur. I'm glad that someone is willing to push the envelope and innovate. Then again, you all already feel the same way.
I wonder what advantages a 26" wheel provides over the 29". My initial thought is that the BB would be a bit low. I wonder if there would be a bit of instability caused by the difference in rotating mass?
It reminds me of the choppers I used to make as a kid, with a 26" front and 20" rear. A 10 year old with a hacksaw is a dangerous thing!
