hey jeff,

those are some cool shots of you riding, who says 29"ers are hard to handle, eh? bigwheels sure are fun to ride.

hey nice start to your website, looks like you have some very creative frame ideas just based on what is on that first page, can't wait to see what else you've got up yer sleeve. are they built from ti or steel, i couldn't really tell. anyway have fun building frames and riding, thanks for sharing the pics. oh yeah, doesn't medford have the lowest average windspeed in the us?

over and out

"Who says 29"ers are hard to handle, eh?" You're right I made it over that stump on my first try on my 29" bike but then on my next ride I rode my 26" bike and it took me 2 try's to make it. (Might just be me)

Thanks for the positive feedback on my web site; it's taking more time to finish it than I thought it would. It has to be just right you know.

The frames and handlebars are Titanium.

Now that you mention it it's not all that windy here.

Here is my "jump" picture with a riding buddy striking a pose.

Hey Jeff, do you have a closeup of your handle bar set up? Looks comfortable.

Here you go Mr. Bob. I really like this bar, its nice having the narrow far forward and the wide rear hand position and everything in between. It only really works with the new Shimano STI levers or on a single speed. You're right it is very comfortable.

I know it doesn't look normal but it works really well. What do you think?

It's called "H-Bar" and has a patent pending.

I'm almost always on my bar ends because I have a real hard time finding comfortable positions on either flats or swept risers. This looks like it could work well for me, even if it does look a little funny ;).

How well do you think it would accommodate grip shifters, if at all?

It might work. I really haven't tried it. You need to be able to run about 40mm in between your grip and the brake lever clamp.

I just did this mock up and it might work if you can one finger brake.

I really think this works best with STI or on a single speed. The STI levers feel like they were made for this bar.

What do you think?

What's the bar weigh? Might want to patent that design, if you created it and haven't already done so (I know I've never seen one, but my experience is pretty limited). Interesting to say the least, and works well aesthetically with the rest of the frame/bike.

You using lock-ons for the forward-most grips?

Last question (for now): You find it's harder to get air (or do trialsy stuff) on a 29er vs. a 26er? Not necessarily hard per se, but hard in comparison. I do, and can't seem to figure out why. I'd be interested in your perspective.

Some answers.

The bar weighs 320g with bar plugs.

The bar does have a patent pending.

I use to use regular grips out front but now I don't use any grips there just like on bar ends.

Jumping and trials stuff really hasn't been that hard on this bike compared to my 26" bikes.
I think getting the seat really low and the bars up while having short (16.9") chain stays helps.

Here is a 29" trialsin' pic taken just before the other stump pic.

As in the late 1980s pro skateboarder? Probably not, you look a bit young...

No, not the skater. In the 80's I was racing BMX and freestylin'. Got ny first MTB in 89.

Here is a pic from '82.

Hey Jeff, I heard the guys that bought Bike Tech from you are looking for you! They are kinda upset.
Here I am.JeffJ

The Bike Tech guy know where to find me. Selling a business is a tough
thing to do- as is buying one, especially for someone from outside the bike industry. The legalities and information required are very intense and there is always due diligence. I was looking to start my own bike building company so I sold. I can't help what happens after that. The economy sucked and I didn't want to continue to put the long hours and tough work necessary to make the shops successful. I ran them for over five years and needed to move on. I haven't hidden at all and wouldn't have named my bike company Jeff Jones Custom Bikes if I were trying to hide.

I love bikes and look forward to making the best bikes I can. I wish the best for the guys at Bike Tech. I hope the economy turns around and that sales pick up.

That's pretty much the bottom line.
