Standover question(6 posts)

Standover questionGary in VA

I'm thinking about adding a 29er to my household. The stock 29 frames I've seen in my size usually have a standover between 31-32 inches. That would leave me with almost no clearance. I'm 5'8" and have a measured inseam in cycling shoes of 32". Am I too short for a 29er? I have no problem going the custom route but I wondering if I should just stick with a 26er.

hey don't fret, i'm you're same hight purdy much and i ride two different 17.5" frames, both 29"ers. my sycip with a cx-1 white brothers has a higher front end so i don't have as much clearance closer to the headtube, but i'm not worried about that, comes with the territory. plenty of clearance clarance, back by the seattube.

my cycling inseam is 32" and although both my 29"ers were custom frames, i tried a "medium" or 17.5" fisher and found it fit very similar to my sycip, just needed a longer stem. and yes clearance as far as standover was minimal, but on the bike was a totally different story. try one of the medium fishers, i just found they needed a tad longer stem, like a 110mm instead of the 90mm, good luck.

over and out

I just got an email from Jay Sycip saying the lowest toptube he could build on a 29er without screwing up the angles would be 28" so that will work for me. If you have any other pics of your Sycip I'd like to see them.
