| karate Monkey | Socrates1969 Jun 14, 2003 3:13 AM | | OK OK i admit it, i'm hooked. Have ridden my suger 293 for about 500 km's now (and adding KM's daily) and i absolutely love it. Love the big wheels. I love it so much i'm even thinking about a second bike; i love the simple clean looks of the KM.
I have a couple of questions.
1) Is it possible to put a different fork on it? For instance i really like the Marzocchi MX-Pro 29 w/ETA on my 293. is this a wise choice or is it plainly not done. It ruins the concept?
2) I don't think i really grasp the concept of single speed. I like the simplicity of the idea... can anybody explain why someone wants singlespeed.
Thanks in advance.
PS: If Cloxxii is reading this: can i buy a KM in Holland? If so Where? |
| Singlespeeding ... ah well ... ! | phatlizard Jun 14, 2003 4:28 AM | | Honestly nobody can explain that to you! Or nobody should even try, there is only one way to find out - DO IT! And no - just not shifting on your regular bike won't work!!!
In the end nobody can explain a vigrin why sex is good - right? The only thing I can tell you is that nobody I ever put on a Singlespeed said he wouldn't like it!
And if you life in the Netherlands - why the hell would someone need gears in a flat country like that? The next mountains you would find are the Ardennes in Belgium and even there - why???

Bike2build sells them in the Netherlands and if you follow the link you can see Cloxxkis and his huge Monkey ... !
Why Singlespeed? Because you can ... !

| Don't be afraid to put a fork on it | MTJ Jun 14, 2003 7:32 AM | | While some people are drawn to single speed and 29 inch bikes just because they are "different" and they want to be everything that the typical mountin biker isn't, there is certainly no stigma associated with suspension on a 29 inch or single speed bike. I think the coolest part about this group of riders is that everyone appreciates everyone else's individuality. If you want to put a fork on your bike, do it. Surly specifically made the rigid fork at a "suspension corrected" length - if you weren't allowed to put a fork on it, why would those guys have gone through the trouble? Do what you want, and don't worry about what everyone else thinks - the image-conscious guys are all on the DH Forum anyway ;) |
| Well said MTJ - Free your mind - and your bike will follow! (nm) | phatlizard Jun 14, 2003 9:12 AM | | |
| re: karate Monkey | Cloxxki Jun 14, 2003 2:37 PM | | Hi Pieter,
Ah, finally a chance to swap bikes and ride a Sugar that fits me!
Try out my KM and tell for yourself whether you're prepared to try it as a rigid, or you'll need some travel on that fork. Anyways, the gorgeous rigid fork comes for free with it.
Also check the White Brothers forks. Simularly prices to Marzocchi's, yet lighter, stiffer, less screaming looks and made in the U.S.A. Don't be fooled, Marz's are either made in Italy or the far East. My WB steers about as sharp as any rigid fork ever will, and I almost can't resist to put on on the KM as well. But for me, personally, the suffering belongs to SS'ing. I could put gears and suspension on it, and have the fastest hardtail on earth, but my KM (at least this first one) is a bit meant to be as pictured, and I loved it the way it is now. Still, I'm curious how it would be, with suspension or even gears...
So when are we swapping bikes? |
| nae the place and time | Socrates1969 Jun 15, 2003 3:51 AM | | Hi Cloxxki,
Name a place and the time, and will be there :-). If i'm correct you have my e-mail address, so we can work out the details. I guess your KM is -a bit- on the big site for me, but i can probably get a real feel of the KM SS ride.
Looking foreward on swapping bikes.
Can you enlighten me on the Dutch pricing of KM?

| Marz shiver | mv Jun 15, 2003 12:59 PM | | Cloxxki, Where did you see the information about the modified shiver fork?
They are on close out and I would like to know how they would stack up against the other 29" forks. Too heavy? Too much travel?
Any input welcome. |
| Marz shiver | Cloxxki Jun 15, 2003 9:32 PM | | Chris @ Speedgoat pulled it off, but doesn't seem to advise others to follow his lead, modification was not exactly a piece of cake, more like a serious job of handywork, I seem to have read on here.
With the new 100mm whitebrothers fork (BW1.0, light and stiff) on the market, I'm not sure the Shiver is still that necessary, unless you really want to jump that baby. |
