Not that I want them, but a Suspention Q(16 posts)

Not that I want them, but a Suspention Q..::Nightfire::..

I have been thinking about the use of long travel UD forks as 29er forks.

After seeing the use of a Shiver on speedgoat I thought there can be no reason that other forks can't be used like this.

My first victim is a Maverick fork. The fork only weighs 3.48lb and has a length of 517.4mm. As this is a 6" travel fork I would try and reduce this to 4" and take the length down to 467.2mm Which is just less than a Surley fork (To work on my frame that would need to be reduced by 3" due to it being built for a 440mm Pace fork)

Has anyone done this? Will it work?

...if I were you I'd opt for the WB BW 1.0. Same travel and only a bit heavier. Plus, you could probably buy 2 WB's for the same price as one Maverick, and you could use a normal qr wheel from another bike, where with the mav you have to use a proprietary 24mm thru-axle hub. If the Mav used a standard 20mm hub I'd probably vote for it, but not til then...

It is actually a fork length issue..::Nightfire::..

At the moment I am happy with it rigid. When getting it built I went for a 440mm fork length. This is because I hate the look of the KM and similar forks that have far too big a gap between the crown and tyre. The Pace have more than enough.

This limits my future sus choices, I knew this before I speced it.

The Maverick would be the perfect length with just over 3" of travel.

Do you have pics of your KM with the Pace fork? If you do, please post or send them to me.

As far as I know, there is no way to get a Pace fork in the US, is this true?

Ok. I have heard back from an expert. In my case with a 440mm for length I would get about 60mm of travel if I did not want the tyre to hit the crown.

I would imagine this setup would make more sence on a KM or other sus corrected frame with a 460+mm fork length.

Every time I have pondered this setup, I keep looking at the Bombshell Whicked Wendy (4.4 lbs) found in fork deals at Cambria.

Heavy when compared to a Pace RC31, but in the hunt compared to suspended 29er forks.

I must admit...... the Pace is my next investment after going tubelss.
