This 29er is going no where fast....minneso
Jan 3, 2004 1:36 PM
..since I am so out of shape. The New Year will bring new riding opportunities!

A few months back I was soliciting IF vs. Jericho advice. Well since then I smashed the h3ll out of my wife's car. Unfortunately the kitty went to paying deductibles, rentals ect :^(

Until I can spend my upcoming bonus on a IF 29er, here is my old skool Gary Fisher 29er. Apx 1990 frame converted to SS running the 2.1 Nanos with plenty of room. My LBS also gave me a deal on the Speed city's that I could not pass up mixed with left over parts and I am ready to roll. The initial trail results were very favorable and I even sold my Superlight committing to full 29er rigid.

Seat belts and side air bags save lives. I walked away unhurt.
The traction circle can be exceeded when oil and 90 degree turns are involved
30mph head on collisions can cause a significant amount of vehicle/shrubbery/light pole damage
You can not order CSL replacement parts without a valid VIN number

The car has been repaired and drives perfectly
The repair bill was more that my 01 Jeep GC is worth
The Scottsdale PD can be real jerks in such a trying time
Having a good insurance company really helped

My co workers all call me crash now, but I will stick with minneso. It has been almost 3 months so posting the pics is no longer a big deal.

That looks like it must've been one heckuva crash.

I really dig your bike... any chance of getting a shot of the rear dropouts? I'm curious what the SS conversion looks like.
Thanks belfrey - drop out pics below {NM}minneso

When building my first ss back in 1998 I chose the Crank Bro taper in 175mm. This build I had been running a 34t chain ring with the supplied Cook's spider. The 33 tooth ring pictured requires a BMX chain. Until a few weeks ago I was unaware that all BMX chains are not all a ½" wide, apparently they make some beefy BMX stuff!

My cohort built the identical bike and he bent his 35 tooth Cook ring, sooooo we will wait and see.

The drop outs were welded on by a previous owner. For some reason they are angled down? This makes it very difficult to adjust the brakes after changing a rear cog :^(

Appreciate the comments but it's only a car (that happened to be my wife's birthday present 2 weeks prior to the accident). Cheers Eric

To avoid more carnage, keep an eye on that Cook ring.I crushed two within a few months.I believe they have discontinued that model and replaced it with a new design.

Thanks-do you know if the new rings will work with my cranks?nmminneso

Yes they will my friend.Go to Cooks site for info. You can also get a spider for them so you can run standard rings.

Hey
Sounds like a rough deal with the car thing.
I used to race for IF for several years.
To make a long story short I'm selling my IF 29'r with frame king headset and marzochi fork.
If your interested I can send you some pics.
I'd like to get about 1100 for the lot.
Great bike and it's been riden to podium finishes with tinker and many others in just one season of racing.
It's not a single speed but I converted it with a singleator with fine results.
Cheers
Steve
