| Questions for tall cold weather riders | tall paul Jan 6, 2004 2:49 PM | | This isn't exactly a 29er question, but since a lot of us 29er folks are pretty tall, i figured i could get away with it.
Basically the problem is that i'm having a real hard time finding good winter riding gear for tall people (i'm 6'8"), specifically pants/tights. I've found a pretty poor selection at Nashbar and REI, but i was hoping you guys could fill me in on some other sources.
thanks,

Good luck with the search.

| ha! me too! all my leg warmers end up being knee warmers! | Padre Jan 6, 2004 6:42 PM | | I'm 6'6 and it's hell on earth trying to get any bike clothes to fit..let alone the mission critical cold weather ones...and I live in so cal! we suffer at anything below 50!
Good luck! |
| Pearl Izumi Therma Fleece Zip Tights in tall sizes.... | 2melow Jan 6, 2004 6:52 PM | | I bought a pair of the PI tights (midweight) in size large but in a tall length last year...but I just checked the website and there are NONE mentioned now. Maybe call up Pearl direct - they might have some floating around or they might have some in one of their retail concept stores. Worth a try, mine are super toasty and I found a pair of tall Patagonia capilene long undies to wear under them in the really cold days.
Also, I have a pair of Biemme Bib thermal tights that are regular length, but just long enough - but then again my inseam is only 36".
Good luck. |
| re: Questions for tall cold weather riders | Cronometro Jan 6, 2004 8:16 PM | | I am 6'-7" and have gotten tights from PI in talls. I have also gotten Trek wind front pants in 2xl that are long enough. Voler makes some stuff in large sizes not realy tall sizes but big sizes that fit me well. I also know of a gal in Green Bay, Wisconsin that will make clothes to your mesurements. I have only gotten one jersey from her a few years ago but the quality and price were good. As far as polypropeline under shirts and long johns, Duofold makes longs and I think xtra longs in many sizes. I have a long body and there 2xl long shirt is plenty long to stay tucked in. I got the polypopeline at my local Gander Mountain store (small scale Cabellas). Your local alpine/telmark/nordic shop sould be able to get Duofold.
Email me if you have more ????

I have a 40" inside leg. You can tell they are stretched as they say c a n n on d a l e where they should say cannondale.

They are aimed mostly at running and xc skiing. Available in tall sizes. Their stuff works very well for cycling, too. I really like the tops and pants/tights made of 3SP. Warm, nearly wind proof and does not absorb water (you do get wet). Just do not put it in the dryer - ever. |
