Wanting to Start!!Kay
Dec 8, 2003 7:30 PM
I'm really interested in getting into biking. The problem is I haven't the slightest cle where to start getting info on what I need or where to begin. Are there any clinics or courses that can teach me the basics so I can get out on the trails and not be a hazard?

Kay
check with a few of your localJimC.

bike shops, known as LBS's. Most have some sort of shop rides and you can join in and get your feet wet that way.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and assume you're of the female persuasion? check here: marycuhere "New video for beginner women!" 11/20/03 7:19pm

If you want to try more challenging stuff, either sex, check Ned Overend's instructional video.

Good luck, come back and ask more Q's if you want, Jim

They all wear Maple Leaf pins on their sweaters in order to display their national pride, and that's offensive to those Americans that have USA stickers on their bumpers..... (I'm joking here, Kay).

I agree with Jim. In addition, if you let us know where you live (not your specific address, but just the state, provence and city), then we can most likely direct you to a club or local organization that would love to help you get in to the sport.

Oh yeah, we know what to expect from youse war mongers....

Canadian comedian Rick Mercer said at a recent Toronto show that being attached to America is like "being in a pen with a wounded bull," joking that between gay marriage and pot smoking, "it's a wonder there is not a giant deck of cards out there with all our faces on it."

It is the National Sport, after all....

Let's not forget the US Government's fantastic response to the Mad Cow scare. That was a nice touch.

I'm loading my pistol right now anticipating the inevitable invasion. It's about time we did something about the Socialists breathing down our neck!

Don't you mean curling broom? OH, man.....Fuelish

You had to mention it...LOL...I MISS seeing curling on TV since we moved south from Detroit (We used to get Canadian channels too)...my wife thinks I'm the ultimate nerd, but...curling's quite amazing, if you take the time to watch it...unbelievable feats can be attained by just the right broom strokes on the ice...I'd rather watch it than hockey (or most any televised sport, for that matter...maybe, save rally car racing :)
Sorry, I digressed...Kay, the internet is your greatest resource for info on the subject, and this is probably the best site for quick feedback and opinions ... take your time, do some research, determine how you want to ride, and keep posting questions - we're a very helpful bunch, for the most part :)

you get tickets to see Celine Dion, repeatedly, until your ears bleed. We can inflict lots more damage with Bryan Adams and or Shania Twang. I'd be careful if I were you. Jim

Me, with my arms curled around my tucked in legs, rocking back and forth in a corner of a dimly lit room chanting slowly as if I were detached from reality, "Near, far, wherever youoo are....." repeatedly.

Uncle! You win. I can't compete against the psyops of our neighbours, er... neighbors to the North. It's a good thing Canada didn't invade Panama, or Noriega would not have been driven insane before he stood trial.

I'm sorry..... wimper......
Stay down..............Mike T.

....or we'll finish ya off with a rendition of Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Hmmmm maybe we could conquer all of N.Am with this stuff?

I had no idea that Gordan Lightfoot was from Canada. I simply assumed the US unleashed him uopn the world.

I've already surrendered. Uncle..... I give.... please.....

so I won't be able to receive those Joni Mitchell tickets either.

I will be in Ontario (Cambridge, West of Toronto) this weekend through the 19th, however. Perhaps I can try and catch her in concert there?

I can only hope.

Ken

You guys just banned our shipments of (yes) fruitcake, the xray machines can't see thru it. Jeez. Enjoy Cambridge a few Kilometers er miles away from Mike T. I think Joni's busy but I'll check to see if Allanis Morrisette can whine at ya. Jim
Yeah banning...............Mike T.
Dec 10, 2003 4:25 PM

Wow, I've ridden your trails....Ken in KC.
Dec 11, 2003 1:34 PM
My daughter and I, actually. We traveled up there two Summers ago. Me to work, and her for holiday.

We rode the trails on the NE side of town. The one's that were basically through what looked like an old pine nursery. They had some wooden stunts in the middle of the trail system. Very cool indeed.

I didn't have any Loonies on me, so I dropped USD's in the honor box. Sorry about that.

Ken
Hey..........Mike T.
Dec 11, 2003 1:39 PM
....not MY trails! Not even anything to do with my club. Those trails are leased by the other club in town and yep, now they decide to charge $3 to use them. When I founded and ran that club we provided those trails as a free community resource. Don't get me started.
I sort of laughed....Ken in KC.
Dec 11, 2003 2:00 PM
At the 3 dollar charge. I wasn't sure what the deal was, but I didn't want to piss on anyone's plant. Are there other trails in and around Woodstock?

I've ridden some of the trails in Cambridge, and down along the escarpment in addition to the afore mentioned Woodstock trails. I know that are more trails than I can shake a stick at, but I wasn't aware of more around Woodstock.

When Mark and Lora move back to ON, I plan on hooking up with them for a tour of Southern ON singletrack.

I'll think of you as I'm passing by tomorrow. My flight arrives around 1:50 (in Detroit) so that should put in in your nape of the neck around 5 or so.

Ken
Oh...........Mike T.
Dec 11, 2003 3:42 PM
....they can't arrest you for not paying the stinkin' $3. Oh yeah there are other trails - not much, but local knowledge counts.

When you pass by on the 401 just don't get into a MVA or I'll be coming to rescue your sorry arse! I'll be on duty within visual distance of you passing by. You're welcome to drop into the station for a chat but you'll be jiggered when you're passing Woodpile.
Actually....Ken in KC.

I saw multiple on Sunday driving back to Detroit.... What a mess. Thankfully, they were all Westbound. Unfortunately, at least one of them looked horrible (as in fatality, horrible).

I was never so glad to get back in to Detroit.

Now however, I'm back, hanging out with my friends at the Cambridge Holiday Inn.

Cheers,

Ken
Yeah that one...........Mike T.
Dec 15, 2003 3:30 PM
.....was a double fatal at Dorchester just outside of our area and had eastbound 401 shut down for a few hours.
Right slap-bang! {nmm}Mike T.

Won Word: WOMBATS!!!!!!AK Ken
Dec 9, 2003 9:20 PM
If you're a WOMan, anyway. Check out the Women's Mountain Biking and Tea Society (WOMBATS) website. There are local chapters all over the country that offer instruction and rides. The Boss Bat is former racerchick Jacque Phelan who is quite the character and can really RIDE A BIKE.
