| suspension fork help | stez Dec 23, 2003 7:08 AM | | I've just attempted to service my rst forks. As per instructions in my maintainance book I've undone the 2 allen key bolts at the bottom of the forks. My prob is that they haven't released the bottom section of the fork for removal. My hunch is that the other end of the bolt is spinning around inside the fork, meaning that I have just loosened it but not totally removed it. Any ideas?

| generic fork help | club Dec 23, 2003 8:16 AM | | never worked on an rst, but my experience with old manitous might help. did the lower bolts come out or are they just loose and spinning? if they came out, then try putting your foot in the crown and yanking mightily. sometimes old manitous required a lot of yanking to get the sliders off.
if they're just spinning, make sure the elastomer (?) stacks are tightened at the crown. that should stop the skewers from rotating.
Old manitous had a circlip at each dust seal that had to be pried loose to get the legs fully off of the stanchions. so if you get the sliders most of the way off but they won't come off completely, look for circlips that you can pry off with a screwdriver, etc. |

| long allen key from inside | adam Dec 26, 2003 6:22 PM | | try inserting a long (very long) allen key inside the uppers once you've taken the springs etc out. there should be a allen fitting on top of the push-rod assembly to hold it while you undo the lower bolts. |
