Wheels don't spinaantiix

Ok, I took my wheels off my bike and was cleaning them up, greasing etc. Its been a while since I last did this, but when I put them back on now they won't spin. My front is QR, my back is bolted on and I have the same problem with both. Please help, not sure what I did wrong!

When you reinstalled them you probably did not put them in straight and the rim is dragging on the brake. Be sure that the wheel is completely in the dropouts on both sides.

For my front with QR I tightened it like normal and left the brakes hang loose and still won't spin. The back is not QR but once I tightened the bolts then it won't spin one direction and the other direction just loosens up the bolts.
no secret to itJimC.

as laffeaux sez: make sure the wheel is in the dropouts, spin before you tighten. It's basic stuff, nothing more really we can tell you. Just phart around with it until you see what the wheel is rubbing on, then correct it.

If you are really stuck, hit the LBS and get them to show you, and offer to pay them to do so (modest fee).

To ease headache pain, see if you can grab a night course on bike mechanics, also check out sheldonbrown.com, and parktools.com has a good site with pix to follow along with.

It's a learning process, take your time, but do it right. good luck, Jim

Do they spin ok before you put them on the bike? My guess is you torqued down the cones too tight when you put the hub back together. Try backing off on the tension.
thanks - thats itaantiix

This is a link to a cone and bearing service proceedure on Park Tools website. My guess is that you have cone and loose bearing type hubs and you have them too tight.

Bookmark the repair help page on the Park Tools website, lotsa' good info there for ya.

Good Luck!
Thanks...aantiix

for the link. I had this bookmarked at one time and was actually looking for this page and couldn't find it. This page will come in handy as I'm taking my bike apart and learning about it.
