Your handle says your from Florida. What cold are you talking about? ;)

I've found that a thermal undershirt (DeFeet brand is what I use) under my jersey, plus full-fingered gloves and lined arm and leg warmers makes riding comfortable as long as it's in the 40s (cold day in California). If it gets colder than that, I throw on a light gortex rain shell that I bought at REI. That's generally plenty to keep me warm where I live. I used to live on the east coast, and I moved to CA so I'd not have to wear a down parka when I rode.

30*ish-45* stuff...
Bottom /base:
Spandex shorts with legwarmers with ankle zips. Can pull up(to make them cooler kneewarmers)or off all together to ventilate when temps(or you)peak around 3ish pm. Sidi Storm shoes(or better versatility std shoes with covers). Layer a wind/rain shell and/or kneewarmers over this if the conditions dictate early or late(or if it rains or snows of course)in the day.

Top/base:

Bike jersey or thin long top(i use some on sale Patagonia Capoliner tops for this ap), armwarmers..which the same applies here as the legws. VEST! I have 3(at least that work for this)that i swap. 1 Marmot Dryclimb(6oz, but very warm for its bulk and weight, and has a Spandex back and lined handwamer pocs), and TNF 4oz poly windvest, or another TNF 4oz poly with a netback for more ventilation and unlined handpockets. Like today, i wear the thin base..net back vest..and armwarmers. The gap at the armpit does wonders for arm articulation that a jacket cannot match. Plus tons more versatility as the day warms..and then cools fast soon after. Over those i can add a wind or rain shell for additional warmth and such.

Light earwarmer band and a fleece neck gaiter for the head. Can dup. any config with this combo. Wades in ones hand, when not in use, i keep them stashed under the tops of my spandex sshorts for easy access. Just like my Gu's.:)

Minimal bulks using the leg and armwarmers so i can still carry a small Classic CB pack to store them if needed and not a full lentgh top or bottom otherwise.
All the marmot and TNF stuff was CHEAP closeouts over the years at mostly Sierra Trading post. Bike stuff is at Performance, etc.

Hope this helps more then Clubs great contribution to this question.
